my deepest thoughts go out to those who lost someone special to them due to freediving. with all the freediving tragedy that has affected us this year i think we need to start opening our eyes a little.....

naturally as freediving becomes more popular and more people do it , we are going to see more tragedies. so, what can we do to prevent this? of course education is the key but how are you as a freediver going to make sure that YOU dive safer and YOUR friends do also. let's start something here. do you have access to formal, affordable, training on the sport? no? why not?, do something about it. organize a local "low cost seminar" i know it's hard but it can definitely be done. let's put some ideas on the table!

Were thinking on the same lines. My dive partner and I just started a club. We have received are non-profit corporate status from the state, of Texas. Our web page, which only has a home page right now is: www.stfreedivera.com We plan on having a weekly pool time at the local pool where members and interested people can practice and learn together for safety and advisement.

I just talked to AIDA-U.S.A. President today about helping us out with a family friendly freediving tournament and community talk. We want to get children and spouses involved and to teach them proper safety from the beginning. My 6 year-old has done a 25 yard dynamic and my 10 year-old a 50, both under my watch and only under my watch.

We have received several inquires from people who want to learn to freedive, but want some training and support. Its hunting season right now, so we are focused on that, but soon we plan to focus our attention on the club.

You’re absolutely right, we can each do our part. Clubs, to me, are the best way for this to happen.

I definitely am for the club idea and am going to start putting some time into it after this month. talk to you later

Forrest, Don & Mushkee,

You guys have got some good ideas, and more importantly you're acting on them.

This year the Diving Equipment Marketing Association (DEMA) show is in Miami from the 8th - 11th of October. Spearfishing Magazine is going to have a booth. I am sure that any non-profit literature about safety training would be welcomed. Perhaps many of the freediving related companies would help out as well.

I am no Kirk Krack, (PFD founder/instructor), but If I'm the best available I would be willing to present a short seminar on freediving safety. As you may know, I attended the Performance Freediving course this spring...and blacked out in the pool under supervision. PFD is a great course but at $500 tuition alone obviously it's not gong to reach a lot of divers.

Since my association with SFM I have been disturbed at how many deaths I have heard about and would like to do something about it.

Sincerely,

Chad Carney

Chad,

That may be a good idea for you to develop/host a freedive seminar in this area. I have been wanting to attend the Performance clinic for some time, only the cost and time from family being prohibitive. Also there may be several guys from our psuedo freedive club who would want to attend. Let me know and I will pass the word.
