View Full Version : Visiting Hawaii for a week

Hey everyone, I'm going to be in Hawaii for a week or so starting January 8th. I have my gear with me and was wondering where I should go to do some spearfishing. Also, is there a website with pictures of legal fish? I imagine the fish there are quite different from Thailand's.

Which island are you going to?

Here are the regulations...

Thanks element, that's really good. If anyone has something in color, I'd really appreciate it. I don't want shoot the wrong fish.

I'm going to be on Oahu.

I dont have any links to sites with color photos. I ended up buying a book when I lived there.

Your going to be on Oahu during prime time surfing season, so I would avoid the North and West shores unless the surf is for some reason small. If its small pretty much any area on the North would be fine. Try Mokuleia (across the street from the glider airfield) or anywhere flat on the North shore should produce some fish. Avoid Pupukea as I think they closed it to spearfisherman.

If I were you I would stick to the South and possibly the East. Rabbit island, Diamond Head, & near Sandys might be good, but use caution in those waters as there are some major currents out there.

You might be able to find someone to join you.

Diving in the Hawaiian wintertime is all about checking the surf so make sure you check the reports before driving across the island...

Hope this helps.

(If your wondering why I am commenting on Hawaii, its because I lived there for 5 years.)
