What year did they have issues. A friend is looking at a boat with a pair on it.

Very bad up to '03, moderately bad after that. Do not go BLACK.

I have a pair of 04's and have no issues with 700 hrs in two years. My understanding is anything after 2003 but they all have problems as do all motors! Tom, call me if you have any questions.

Well, everyone takes care of their motors in different ways. So, depending on the owner any motor could have problems.

It's a roll of the dice, tell him to look for something with Zukes on it.

I know plenty of those that have blown up or had problems with as well. Like I said "ALL MOTORS" can and will blow up on someone.

If you want a really good motor stick with a 2 stroke and get an E Tech.

I have a pair of '99 150s w/ 500hrs and no issues so far. Just had full compression test and all cyclinders are right on factory specs... I think most issues were w/ the 225s..

Blue injectors - definitely. But that alone does not eliminate the problems. Last year I had a choice between rebuilding a 2003 225 Optimax and a 2001 250 2-stroke EFI for my boat. Since it's a single outboard configuration, I went for the 250 EFI. Burns way more fuel, but IMHO, way more reliable. Much easier to ramp up the horsepower with some go fast "bolt ons."

Tom this is the second pair I have had year 2000 had 300hrs when I bought the boat Oct. 05 have not had them to a shop yet for even a checkup. I don't have a hour meter on it so I won't know how many hours until I take it in. that assuming the dealer was honest about hte hours in the first place.
