Being a new boat owner and still doing a lot of learning, we are still trying to figure out just what everyone must-have on their boat. We keep adding stuff that we think of and realize we need while we are out there.

Besides the obvious and required safety equipment (life jackets, flares; etc) what do you have on your boat? I am talking tools, wiring, putty (i was talking to a client that carried fast sealing putty), extra batteries, emergency bilge setups...etc...

How about a back-up VHS or GPS?

Oh yeah and we already have an Eprib.

We already have the beer  What else do you carry?

Thanks!

john

Might I add...We also carry oxygen. Although we need to get a better case (pelican) to hold the components outside of the tank. :)

HOT water in the winter!

Get one of those propane-fired portable water heaters. I think Coleman makes them.
John hooks his up to the fresh water spigot and it's great for warming up the wetsuit without making it smell like piss!!

A golf pencil velcro'd/attached near the radio. If you need to write down some numbers/etc, really fast like a sinking, you may only hear it one time. Or if you are relaying info for someone to the GG. Wipes right off the gelcoat easily too.

I always bring one of those tool kits that come in a hard plastic case. I just buy a cheap one every couple of years at home depot. No need for the stainless/marine/expensive super set. Make sure it includes a socket set, wrenches and a nutdriver kit. Throw in some electrical tape, a lighter, bottle opener, spark plugs, steering fluid with fill kit, marine grease, alan wrench set, starter fluid, spray lubricant...you get the idea. I keep all of this stuff in an old tackle box under the center console.

I also keep a toolbox in the truck with a couple of spare hubs, grease, tire pressure gauge, work gloves, orange hand cleaner, bug spray, sunscreen, tire patch kit, tail light bulbs, trailer wiring harness etc... Just think of what you would need if you broke down on US 41 halfway between Naples and Miami at night and toss it all in a box. Spare trailer tires. I keep an old 1st stage rigged for filling tires too.

Might also consider a limited supply of screws, bolts, nuts, washers that are typically found on critical items on your boat too.

O2 kit

Duct tape

Tapered wooden plugs for EVERY THRU HULL on your boat. If you want to do it right, attach the plugs with wire or mono and secure them to the thru hull itself. Sucks to scrable to find one when you really need it.

Stash a few gallons of fresh water somewhere, may save your life one day.

Tapered wooden plugs for EVERY THRU HULL on your boat.

That's a great idea.....I just got done drilling a thru-hull, and replacing a seacock on another. I will definately do this before I launch.

All good ideas so far. I would add a fairly complete electrical kit: volt/ohm meter, test light spare fuses, bulbs, butt connectors, heat shrink, crimpers, strippers, wire, wire nuts, dielectric grease, & marine goop. Most marine problems are corroded electrical connections. This kit can keep your trip going.

Also a built-in battery charger is a great thing.

IMHO these really make a day spearing more enjoyable:

1. Fresh water shower (warm water is a bonus).
2. Raw water washdown.

You will need 2 separate pumps. Jabsco ParMax4 I think are best for the $$.
