I've been very interested in one of the new kevlacat 2800 pilot diesels. They seem to have a decent rep here. I was doing some searches on thehulltruth.com forum and everyone was blasting them. One guy had pictures of a brand new 32 that had huge cracks on the insides of the sponsons. General claims of poor workmanship and materials and bad customer service. Many people saying if you want a kevlacat, go to Australia. Supposedly the drop in quality occurred after new ownership in early 2000's. Does any body have any similar experiences or to the contrary? I love the concept of the boat and hope they are not true.

I've been offshore on my buddy's out board 28 KCat a few times. Once in 5-7' seas for the St.Pete Open while running back in at 35 mph!
He has no qc problems on his older hull, now powered with 250 DF Suzuki's.
The weight of the diesels would probably be a good thing in this hull because it wants to chine walk a little. My 26' Twin Vee doesn't do this, and I find it a little annoying.
The 28 KCat is a very short 28' boat. Like 26' hull with the bracket added.
It's also a load to tow because of the height.
But, it will run almost 60 with a pair of 250's and it absolutely eats up 3-4' seas at fast cruise speeds.
Quality control issues aside it would be a great ride with a pair of Yanmar diesels w/ Merc outdrives.

thehulltruth.com is notorious for blasting cats. if you dont own a glacier bay or world cat you are looked down upon. i was doing research on the baha 29 & 34 king cats there and came to that conclusion . everybody has a opinion, take it with a grain of salt.
just my 2.

Keyskiller, I know a couple of people who had the Baja King Cats and they had major issues with glass work. Stringers broke loose, hull blisters, & delamination.

Double Gun has a 28 foot Kevlacat and it is fast and will cut through some rough seas. Seemed to be made well and I think he has owned his for quite a while. PM Double Gun for more info. They will also throw you out of the boat if not careful. :D

I think the problems were limited to the 32' model which was mold that Nick Ott had made here versus the other molds that come from Kevlacat Australia. That said, they seem to have a bad rep on customer service and last time I talked to Nick he said he was looking to move operations to the Dominican Republic. Interpret that how you will. Maybe its just cheaper labor than Georgia, but it was all I needed to know after meeting the President face to face. No clue if that is still the current plan or not, I lost interest in this very promising line of boats after alittle digging.
