Has anyone come up with a real slick way to mount one of these to the outside of a eurotransom? With some sort of release to remove it maybe? I would just through-bolt it, but I have got my battery switches and main distribution breakers in the way.

Thanks,

Alot of people use the roll control systems track and make it where the rack slides down two 1 ft vertical sections of the track. If you screw or bolt the track to the transom make sure to 5200 it also so the screws or bolts dont "rack" .

heres a good thread

Thanks, I have seen that way, but that will not work for me. The Rack will not sit on the deck but be up a couple of inches off the deck. That would require stops in the track and locks on top. Even so I do not wish to have a the 2 pieces of track with additional stops mounted on the back of the transom. I would prefer something little "cleaner" with the rack removed. I have seen some quick release mounts for trolling motors made of starboard that could be made to work but they are a little more money than I want to spend on this little project...

Thanks,

That looks great on your boat! I may use some of your ideas there. Have you every had any issues with the clasp opening?

No, but a bolt or a lock would eliminate the possibility.

Velcro strips/sheets?

Velcro strips will not stick to Starboard.

I have never found any adhesive that is effective to hold anything on a boat, mechanical fasteners work best.

I was thinking; I may pass on the velcro idea, but I did not want to sound unappreciative for anyones input.

I don't care how you mount it, just get it fixed so I don't have to hear you complain that my gun doesn't fit anywhere on your boat. :stick:

That is the cleanest way, I think possible to mount it. That came out really slick. It gave me a great idea for my boat. Thanks.

Dude! Are you joking? Your gun has killspikes pointing in two directions? No one is safe around that abomination; except of course the fish... :p

Thats a great looking install. I have seen other boat owners use those angled blocks to mount the rack. Great job! If you will e-mail me a couple photos of your install (from several angles), with your permission, I may use them in my next catalogue!

I would be happy to. I will get some photos the next time I get her in the water, and try to get some photos with guns in place and maybe even from the divers perspective, but with the weather the way is has been it may take some time...

Kill Shot & Tbare....Can you provide any more details on your install? It looks great! What fasteners, screws, bolts, backing plates, etc. did you use? Do you have access to the inside transom area? I fear I may not have access that area on my boat but have a nice flat euro transom to mount against.

It was pretty simple. I took the rack apart and drilled and counter sunk 4 holes. I mounted it with 3ea quarter inch bolts. I used fender washers and 2 nuts locked together the outside nut is a nyloc. Everything was gobbied up with 5200. I used one ss screw because the my battery switches are where one of the holes went through. Between the rack and the gelcoat, I used 4 rubber "bumpers" (From Home Depot) so the rack could sit off the gelcoat and be ajusted with the bolt tension.

I tried to come up with something removable but I could not find something that I would trust or was willing to pay for.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info. The rubber bumpers are a good idea. I've been thinking about mounting a 4-6 gun rack to another larger sheet of starboard with the same bolt pattern as the birdsall marine transom rod holder. Thus allowing me to swap out when trying to sell the boat in ~2yrs.

That is one way to do it, I imagine that Birdsall Rod holder is as much as the the gun rack. If it were me I would polish were the rack was and fill the holes with with epoxy and gelcoat or simply place screws in the holes.
