2.Start deepest and work to the shallows.
3.Where there is saltwater...Local Laguna Beach,Salt Creek, Catalina, Coronados, San Clemente

6.Never solo.....freaky things happen at night
7.Never gun.....bag is too heavy and hard to carry around when full.....will get harrased by DFG, bugs are only to be taken by hand with no use of any devices(I.E. tickle stick, speargun, sling)

This year will be my first attempt at getting bugs, and the wait is KILLING ME!
My buddy and I have seen 2 bugs hiding under the same rock twice now, and they are HUGE!!!
I know nothing about the habits of the lobs, what are the chances that they are living under that rock and will be waiting for us to come get 'em in 3 weeks?
I have a stick of butter waiting.....

Im sure they will still be there.
There is a little ledge/cavern here in Laguna Beach that holds bugs all season. We will dive that spot if we cant get limits from another area.
Anyone know why there are so many dead bugs out there right now? On "Deadmans Reef" in Laguna, there are dead bugs all over the place. Some are eaten from other fish, but some are still whole. We see them in about 55-65' deep. I counted 11 today.

Kyle, where is "Deadman's Reef"? I'm familiar Laguna Beach, but I've never heard of that spot.

Its outside the huge rock outcropping usually known as "Bird Rock" or "Seal Rock" or "Shit Rock". It is just north of crystal cove.
Reef starts around 30 foot and drops to 80 on both sides. Tough beach dive, Ive only been there by boat. Fantastic bug spot. Ill have to show you some day.

I just looked up the date for the lobster opener....SEPTEMBER 27 WHOOOHOOOOOOOOOO.

DFG States. Spiny Lobster season starts the Saturday preceding the first Wednsday in October.

Thanks for the clarification Kyle. I know it as Seal Rock, though I've never dove there. Hope to meet you at the OC Hunter meeting soon and hook up for some diving. There are some great guys at the club who would want to go diving with you too.

My handcuffs at the office are slowly starting to lift, so by bug hunting time, ill be out at least 4 nights per week, along with every weekend.
Maybe we all need to get a big group together for opening night and all goof around in the water. Its usually more fun to be with a bunch of people than to actually catch something.

Anyone know what the moon cycle will be on the 27th? Im wishing for no moon at all.

Are those dead or molts? Fla female bugs often molt at the end of the breeding cycle.

Full dead, with meat still on them. Some were laying on their back, dying.
