Going to Oahu on business in April and hope to play hookie for a couple of days to dive. Won't be spearing since I would'nt know what to do with fish in a hotel and don't want to haul a bunch of gear, but want to explore the waters. Is there any decent shore diving on that island? Another choice might be to take an island hopper to the big island. I spent about 3 months there in '79 and it was pretty good. I remember diving near an airport north of Kona, but looking at a recent map, I don't remember an international airport in that area. Is that new? Could you fly in there and tak a short taxi ride to the warter and find decent diving?

Thanks in advance,

Brian

I did a couple dives on the north shore at "Shark's Cove" and "Three Tables" a few years ago. (Just being a tourist. Spearing's not allowed at either site.) Easy entry points and lots to see either scuba or freediving. Lots of tourists though. There's a good dive shop over there but I don't remember the name of it. I have the info in my log book. PM me if you want a bit more info.
Ron.

There is some great diving at hanaumabay beach...I dove there recently...no spearing is allowed b/c its a preserve...Tons of life there...I saw 5 or 6 turtles within 2 hours or so...tons of tourists also but there is plently of room and they stay in shallow...you can go out a ways away from everyone

PM me if you want more details
