Here are some pictures from my cousin and teamate. He tried to post them, but he is retarded. Here is the message:

WEll Nicaragua proved to be one of the most remote and third world places i have every been to but the people, waves and diving were excellent. I was able to hook up with a guy that lives i a small town on the pacific side and we headed out early one morning to some rocks that were a few hundred yards offshore. The visibilty up and down the coast has been really murky lately but on this day we could see 30 ft and had lots of bait and activity. Within the first hour Richard and i had both landed Rooster fish of 30 lbs as well as some mackerel and reef fish. Holding out for a big one i stayed on the outskirts of the schools of Blue Runners and managed to stone my second and third Roosterfish which were 40 and 50 lbs. I was hoping for bluewater and some billfish but i am more than happy to have landed these 3 beautiful fish and can't wait to get back down there to go for them again.

How did they fight? The ones you didn't stone...

Caught one of those on hook-n-line once in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico - was fun...

I am not sure in what sense you mean. These fish were shot freediving with a buoy system, so it isn't like they are dragging us all over the ocean. We use railguns, so once the shot is taken we just release the gun and return to the surface to fight it there. Most fish wear out pretty quickly if you get a solid shot and you are patient with them on the buoy line. Roosters are no exception.

Do you eat them ?how do they taste ? I have heard roosterfish are about inedible.

Do you guys spear billfish? We can't do that here.

Man,
I am from Florida too. I passed up a shot on nice sail this summer near Ft. Jeff. and I have regretted it. I released a marlin on rod and reel in Key West during lobster season, but otherwise I that is all I have seen. We travel a lot to shoot other kinds of fish. Our plan is meet up with the Rabitech guys in Mozambique sometime soon. They shoot plenty of marlin there.

Oh, Roosters taste like crap. Those are for the Rabi website.

These fish are pretty average eating but the locals love them so i gave one to my hotel and the others to a restaraunt. they fight like any other big jack and are really strange looking in the water, they have such big heads and then tehir bodies taper off pretty fast so they look weird the first time you see them. i wanted to hit some billfish while i was there but because of the constant offshore winds the color change was 50 miles offshore. In Panama and Nicaragua you can shoot billfish but in Costa Rica they will shoot you if you shoot one because the catch and release fishery is what the charter boats survive on. If you want a billfish though Panama and Nica are still really good bets, and it is only a few hours run in to Costa's waters from southern nicaragua.
