Well, I have to chime in for our team. I would say that myself and Salty Slayer have more dives since November than your whole club. Not to mention Team HeadHunter, Armando, Chris Hill & Pat Bennett.

Comparing professional divers to weekend warriors
is as pointless as trying to convince everyone that Bryan isn’t a broke back diver , or that i enjoy and look forward to diving in the bay :D :D
So are the previously named divers going show and represent or are we just gonna get to listen to Bret tell us how it’s done.......... from the sidelines

If a decision to call off the tournament due to bad weather is made it will be announced here on Spearboard Friday afternoon 12pm 3/16/07 . Or you can call Aquatic Obsession 727-344-DIVE(3483) after 12pm.

If the it is canceled, the Capt meeting and tournament will be moved to the rain dates of Friday 3/23/07 and Saturday 3/24/07

What is the criteria for calling of the tournament?

Grauer
03-13-2007, 08:01 PM
If you are diving with Brett Walley, seas over 4 inches will call the tournament for that boat. For all others, definately small craft advisory will move the tournament to the rain date. If the weather calls for conditions just under small craft advisories, we may still be forced to cancel. This depends on the speed of the front as it moves down from the North. We simply don't want to put fellow spearos off-shore and then have them caught in dangerous seas.
Bill Hardman says thanks for asking. He wrote in the Brett Walley rule. He will see ya tomorrow at FSDA.

Now there is bad weather and there is BAD WEATHER.

Is it small craft advisory or if someones mangina hurts, that it gets called?

BTW Chris, I saw your signature where it says, SPUC We do it, while others just talk about it.

I think TBSC's motto should be, we talk about it, while others do it. :D

Chris,

I have no problem running my boat in "Rough" weather, I think if at all possible the tournament should go off, if it is safe.

What exactly is the Bret Walley rule?

If there is a Bret Walley Rule, I would hope it is, that we follow all rules, no matter who you are, or how much you whine. ;)

Capt Bateman,
I think it is awsome that your gonna join in in the festivities. :thumps: :thumps: :thumps:

despite the our willingness to head into the wind and current conquering 2-3 or 5-7 seas, waves crashing over the bow, thrashing our boats and gear and persons like true diehard spearfishing hell bent on peircing the scales of sneaky sly fish, let us not forget that promoteing safe and responsible behavior is the appropriate thing to do.

Steve: I have a Lotus 123 spreadsheet that I've used to log my spearfishing dives and catches since October 2002. I note date, location, time, depth, bottom/deco time, and gas mix. I also keep separate columns for lobster and major fish species. I probably also should add water temperature. On MG or multiday trips, I try to keep track of the fish on a piece of paper. Lotus has database functions that I can use for trend analysis, but I haven't done any yet with this database. My spreadsheet also has running totals on my number of dives and time spent underwater dating back to my first scuba dive. Since my certification in 2001, I have spent over 824 hours (over thirty four 24 hour days) underwater - almost all spearfishing and lobstering.

Before I got into spearfishing, I used to freedive every morning off my beach for lobsters in season. I maintained a similar spreadsheet for the lobsters and was able to identify trends that to this day allow me to predict major inshore movements (walks). I sometimes get false positives, but not false negatives. In other words, the lobsters don't always walk when I say they will, but they never walk the other days (I have been known to occassionally be off by a day). This has allowed me to narrow the walk days down to about 10-15 days a season. Fishhunta can attest to my accuracy as he is one of the two people that I share my predictions with. I commercial lobster dive with the other guy. I would have never learned how to do this without collecting a lot of data from diving every day and having a tabular way to analyze it.

kitefisherman
03-14-2007, 04:55 PM
1,743 fish, 1,367 lobsters

That comes to an overall average of 1.57 fish and 1.37 lobsters per dive since I started. Approximately, three things die each time I break the surface of the water.

That's only going to go up now that I have my new Deathstick. I've pulled the trigger 21 times and have hit fish 21 times - no gutshots or haircuts. It's the best gun I've ever shot. :thumps:

TBSC Notice – Thursday March 15, 2007 (1301 hours)

Due to the most current weather predictions for this Saturday with winds just under Small Craft Advisories and the propensity for Saturday’s winds to generate Small Craft Warnings, the Tampa Bay Spearfishing Club is moving the 2007 TBSC Winter Invitational to the Original Rain Date and implementing the Original Alternate Rain Date. The Rain Date is next weekend, March 23 and 24, 2007. The times and locations are the same. The Diver’s Check In, Late Registration & Captain’s Meeting will be on Friday March23 and the tournament diving, weigh-in and awards will be on Saturday March 24, 2007. The Alternate Rain Date is scheduled for March 30 and 31, 2007. The Alternate Rain Date is available only if the tournament cannot be held on March 23 & 24, 2007. We thank all spearfishermen for their patience in this matter. Weather is always the final hurdle in off-shore or near-shore diving. We are glad that the initial turn out and interest in this tournament is so high. We have collected just under $10, 000 of bonus prizes to give out to participants of this tournament. And we are very happy that so many divers have stepped up to participate in an event that helps to add financial support to “Diver’s Rights” and the FRA.

Dive Smart, Dive Safe,
Bill Hardman, TBSC Vice President
