As I mentioned in the Hypnautical thread, one of the reasons the Spearboard Open is so popular is its great geographical diversity. The rules have been intentionally designed to not favor one area over another. There is also no mandatory captain's meeting. The shooting day is Saturday, May 19 and the weigh-in, BBQ, Expo, and prize day is on Sunday May 20. This allows SBO contestants to shoot just about anywhere as long as they can drive (not fly) their catch to the weigh-in. :toast:

The second charter boat after Hypnautical to step up to the plate is the dive charter "Sandy's Sunday" which also operates out of Palm Beach Inlet on the east coast of Florida. The company name is Ocean Quest Scuba. Sandy's Sunday is a hunter friendly 30 ft Island Hopper that was built in 2000. She was built for a dive company in Hilton Head South Carolina, but was never used for charter. The boat is equipped with a custom designed spear gun rack, lobster snare rack, and game cooler.

So here is the deal from Captain Sandy Brammeier (aka SB "sandrabramm"):

Sandy's Sunday will run two charter trips of 3 tanks + meal each on SBO hunt day May 19. The price per person will be $90 each. To allow space for you, your gear and your fish, each trip will be limited to no more than 9 hunters. The first trip will leave at 8AM and return to the dock at 1:30PM and includes lunch. The second trip will leave at 2PM and return to the dock at 8PM and includes dinner. Tank rentals are $7.50 for air and $12.50 for Nitrox each.

Hello....I am Sandy the owner of Ocean Quest Scuba. We would be happy to take you spearfishing on the day of the tournament. We will stock our boat with extra game coolers and plenty of ice for packing your fish. We've got several areas that we hunt already, and we are going to make notes and map out a game plan for that day. We'll keep you well feed and there is always plenty to drink onboard. We are also going to run a little mini-tournament with in our trips, and have prizes for the biggest fish, most fish, etc on our trips. So give us a call and we'll get you set up for the trip of your choice. We allow our diver's to dive thier computers, we just ask that you stay out of deco. We also require that all hunters have a surface signal of some sort "safety sausage". We will also be carrying spare guns, bands and other equipment vital to the day. Thanks and Good Luck! Please contact me if you have any questions. Sandra Brammeier 561-776-5974 www.oceanquestscuba.com

:toast: Welcome to Spearboard Sandy!

I love seeing dive boat operators getting involved with Spearboard because they are such important contributors to the sport by providing boating access to the water. :notworthy

Thanks for participating!:yay:

Welcome Sandy!
Good to have you. :thumps:

My son Logan and I dive this boat a lot. The crew are ALWAYS spearfriendly, no matter how many reefhuggers may be on board. The boat is smaller than many other dive charters, so there are fewer divers to compete with underwater.

One thing I know about Sandy is that she is fearless of big seas. I guess all those years in the Coast Guard conditioned her. She has a relatively short run out the Palm Beach Inlet. Many times I will go by Force E dive shop and ask what charter boats went out when the weather was inclement (and I was not out)---sure enough most often she is out there running and spearing in just about all conditions.

Sandy
Mixed feelings. Good to see you out for the sport and commaraderie. Bad to see you out for the competition. You have a lot of good hunters in your flock. Lots of luck. Welcome!

Good to see another dive boat running for the sbo... I hope the palm beach and jupiter charters fill up for the sbo, we've had great conditions, vis and all kinds of action in the last few weeks ranging from the slew of gags, growing number of blacks, cobes and our regular hogs, snappers and jacks. Givin we don't tend to have the freakish moster hogs and muttons of the middle grounds but we do have plenty of action to compete. Hope to see the conditions hold up and see plenty of east coast representation at the sbo. :thumps:
