Anybody been to Venice lately? Any idea where the fish are? Has snapper season closed already?
I'm thinking of going this Sunday and want to make a well-informed decision.
Thanks,

Big L,
Don't waste time going to the west right now. I made a short run to WD trying to put a few more hours on the rebuilt engine and ended up in WD 94. Waste of time. We saw an over abundance of spades and sheephead but no Snapper or Grouper. Broke a blade off of the STBD engine(the rebuilt one) on the way to WD117 so we made the detour to 94. Two sundays ago, there was no current and a thick murk layer 15' thick. It got very dark and murky at 90'. We eventually found a few fish in 100' of water and hammered a 60# tarpon, 42# drum and a nice but cuda-mutilated cobia. Searched WD40's for more cobia but settled for a dozen or so mangrove and dog snapper. At least two of the fish made the club board.
The boat is running good but I need to get the prop repaired.
Also, some buddies dove South Timbalier on Weds of last week and dealt with a smoking current and no fish. My West Desert trip was better.
I was hoping to trailer the boat to Cocodrie Sunday and dive the Ship Shoal area. Waiting on the word from the Devil. She is pissed that I am diving Friday from Mississippi. PM me as the weekend gets closer

the good and bad
I'll be keeping an eye on the weather, and will definitely be looking to go if we have favorable conditions. I'll shoot you an e-mail later this week to see what you think.

Our charter trip with Xtreme got cancelled due to an automobile accident that left one of Troy Wetzel's charters with a broken leg. We wish him a speedy recovery!
Has anyone been out of Venice lately? We're gonna try to go this weekend in some smaller boats, so we're trying to reduce our open water time to a minimum. We usually hit the Main pass block, but 15 - 20 miles in open water might be too rough for our boats, depending on the seas.
Other options we're considering are some rigs east of SW pass in 110 feet, or the 12 mile rigs accessible by SE pass. Does anyone have any thoughts on these areas? Any fish there this time of year? Current? Vis?
Any help is appreciated. I got two of my brothers who are pretty disappointed because this would have been their first trip, so I'm hoping I can get them out there anyway.
Thanks!
Big L

LSU,
I will be fishing and spearfishing in Venice this weekend. I usually go out of SE pass. The rigs are actually only 7 miles from the pass. They are called the 12 mile rigs because the're 12 miles from south pass. Anyway, I couldn't tell about the vis right now but it usually starts getting pretty nice this time of year. SP60...good snapper hole. Good luck maybe ill see you there.

Fish Steeler,
Thanks for the info! Maybe we'll see you out there! It's cool to see some other guys from BR on the board. I live in Houston now, but am from BR originally. My parents and 3 brothers still live in BR. We'll be taking a couple bathtubs out this weekend if we go, one is a Blazer Bay and the other is an unmarked McKee.
If you ever need another guy to share expenses, I'd love to go or can definitely find somebody to help out!
