You may recall that in recent years the Southern Open has been an aggregate tournament with an unlimited points system. Points were limited by time constraints. The Sunday weigh-in caused us to review our scoring system to assure an entertaining competition. Tonight the FSDA clubs adopted a new scoring system for this year's tournament. The main features are this:

15 lb Maximum weight credit per fish. This is intended to close the gap between competitors without damaging the competition. It also is intended to let everyone dive where they like to without requiring an exotic dive plan to compete.

One fish per competitor can score up to 50 weight points. This adds the challenge of having to catch at least one larger fish. The fish can be any of the species in the tournament. The other benefit is that the diver will get credit for their biggest fish.

5 bonus points for every fish. This maintains the significance of filling the categories.

The clubs also adopted a plan to conduct a registration and Diver's meeting on the East coast. The meeting and registration will be held at the same time that the West coast meeting is held. This is intended to give our East Coast members an opportunity to compete in their home waters. Their fish still have to be at the weighin in Tarpon Springs on Sunday and competitors must comply with all fishery regulations for their region.

Thanks everyone who helped develop these rules. We're optomistic that this will make the tournament even better.
