FISHES TO SHOOT FOR AT THE 2007 HELL DIVERS RODEO
There has been some misinformation printed on what to shoot for at the Hell Divers Rodeo, mostly by members of the Hell Divers.
There is no scuba division in the Hell Divers Rodeo. There is a Master Board. From this master board, the Club, the King Spearfishingman, the Champion Skin Diver, the Queen Spearfishing woman, and the Boat award are chosen.
On the master there are 12 fishes to shoot for. Each fish has 3 places. Each place earns points towards one of the major awards listed above. 1st earns 3 points, 2nd earns 2 points, and 3rd earns 1 point. Each of the 3 biggest fish also earns an award and choice at the prize table. These 36 fishes may be shot with scuba or skin diving. A man or woman may shoot them. A senior diver or junior diver may shoot them. The Junior diver who may only want to shot on the Junior Division and not compete on any other division may declare that when he or she enters the rodeo and pay $25 instead of the $50 on or before May 24th and the $60 after May 24th. The Junior diver who pays the full amount is eligible to shoot on all divisions.
The 12 fishes are: Amberjack, Barracuda, Cobia, Grouper, Jack Crevalle. Mangrove Snapper, Ray (any legal ray), Red Snapper, Sheepshead, Triggerfish, Miscellaneous (any legal fish not listed above except no Sunfish or Redfish)(Sharks and Jew Fish may not be taken)
The Club who earns the most points on the Master Board wins the Club Award.
The divers diving off of the same boat that earns the most points on the Master Board wins the Boat Award presented to the Captain of the boat.
The individual Diver who earns the most points on the Master Board is the King “the Whip” Award and gets a pick off of the prize table. Again this diver may be a man or woman. He or she may shoot the fish with scuba or skin or a combination of both.
The diver who shot fishes skin diving and earns the most points from the fishes on the master board is the winner of the Champion Skin Diver. This skin diver may be a man or woman. Also the 1st runner-up and the 2nd runner-up wins an award and a prize off the table. 3 places on the skin diving board. .
The lady diver who earns the most points from the fishes on the master board is the Queen Spearfishing Woman. She may shoot the fish with scuba or skin or a combination of both. Also the 1st runner-up and the 2nd runner-up wins an award and a prize off the table. 3 places on the Ladies board.
In the Senior Division there are 3 places, the diver must be 55 or older as on May 31st. He or she must tell the weigh master his or her age when weighting fish. There are 3 places for the senior diver: Champion Senior Diver, 1st runner-up, and 2nd runner-up. Each place wins an award and pick off of the prize table. The largest fish (1) shot by the senior diver wins the awards.
In the Junior Division there are 3 places, the diver must be 17 or younger as on May 31st. He or she must tell the weigh master his or her age when weighing fish. There are 3 places for the junior diver: Champion Junior Diver, 1st runner-up, and 2nd runner-up. Each place wins an award and pick off of the prize table. The largest fish (1) shot by the junior diver wins the awards.
The Blue Water Division has 3 places: The Champion Blue Water Diver, the 1st runner-up, and the 2nd runner-up. Each place earns an award and a pick off of the prize table. The winners who earns the most point in the following wins: Yellow Fin Tuna, Black Fin Tuna, Wahoo, Darado, and Miscellaneous (any legal fish not listed on the master board) With 3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, and 1 point for 3rd.
Champion Sheephead Diver or Sheepshead Aggregate is the who diver who has the most weight of 5 sheepshead weight at the same time or a stringer of 5 sheepsheads weight together. The diver with the most weight wins this award and a pick off of the prize table. This category earns no points toward any other awards.
