Thanks for kicking off the new area with a good post, Hector.
I'll look forward to a lot of good ideas here.

hey, Scott. It migth be nice to, name the section after Carson in his memory. Not sure what exactly but something that would remind the members of what we have lost. One of the best among us, Although many did not get to know him, we have all been touched by his sacrafice.
I am still without words from the news. ...

Scott thank you :
Ive got to say that in almost 15 years of diving Ive only had to deal with a situation like the one faced a 4 times. But none of them from the perspective of it being a friend.AS you have stated before as long as this wont turn in to a "haha you did this wrong you jack as " area this will do a great deal of good.Becasue Ive got to tell you Its a bitch to have to learn on the spot. Especallly when the law is involved.

If i see people calling other people idiots for doing something dangerous and being man enough to admit it, I'll yank their ass after a warning.
BTW, I am not just saying this due to the tragedy. I have always wanted to explore safer ways to shoot, and my posts have shown several times that I will be the first to stand up and admit a bone-headed thing I have done (e.g., the A.J. I shot placing both me and another diver in potential harms way due to getting spooled). I know that makes me look bad, but if someone learns, then it's worth it.
This is from a Spearfishing Magazine Article written months ago about Spearboard, and is a quote from me:
I was personally motivated as a new shooter looking to absorb as much spearfishing knowledge as quickly as possible. The internet is the media for instantaneous access to information and I'm personally not afraid to look stupid, so the site got rolling along right away.
We can only have open communication by evaluating ourselves. A doctor mentioned the quality checks they have. Paramedics have a Quality Improvement system in place for when they screw-up. Spearfishermen need the same thing. If you're too embarrased to openly discuss something that concerns you, send it to me and I'll post it as an anonymous note. I'm serious about this, and while I have censored very little to keep Spearboard a club-like environment, I will not have people insulted for openly discussing ways to become better divers. That would only discourage a) New Members, and B) New Posts -- both of which we need to improve ourselves.
That is not to say you cannot disagree with someone or tell them their wrong. Debate is not a bad thing. Just stay away from the attacks. I would encourage people to be honest about things they know are dangerous and "outside the box." If you engage only in solo diving, then how can we make it safer, etc.
As for naming this part of the forum after Carson, I appreciate the suggestion, but I am working on something else. TBA.

Well said Scott. There is really nothing more to add here. I respect your handling of this very much. Nuff said

I think this new area is an outstanding idea. Our sport has many inherent dangers, we now have a platform to address them. I was unaware of the loss of Carson until a few days ago.
My condolences to all who knew him.
