bath tub... he have a new one? 05/06
Damn was hopen I was going to get a nice ride.. Looking at one up here in tampa.. Its a toss up Contender 2004 31 open twin 300 yama warr 10/09 225 hours. Raython elet. and not much else. 92k with trailer
Cape horn 2006 31 open 2006 yama F250 Furuno package radio, full curtians with wings, 400 hrs on motors warr untill 03/12 Hull warr 10 year,
Thing about contender is the Hull warr is NON- transferable.. BS!! so I buy this boat for 92k and have no Warr on the hull. Kinda bugs me.. I really dont like the yama 300 HPID they are blowing up left and right as well as the Hpid 250s.
Tough choise.. Those who love contenders will say I am a fool for not taking it, those who love CP say I am a fool for not buying it. The guy who has the CP31 has owned 2 contender 31's was ready to go out and buy third one and took the CP for a spin and said he stuck with it and would never buy another brand. He said the ride was Smooth in 3-4 slop running 40mph. Also said that it is much drier than the Contender?
Dont know give me some input

Never rode on a 31 cape horn, But I owned a smaller one. I think there one of the most under rated boats out there. There built like a tank. I've also fished off of contenders and was very disappointed at there ride and stability. I think there good boats, But don't live up to all the hype IMHO, At least not for the money they bring.

Smooth in 3-4 foot chop? You might want to go for a ride yourself. My buddies 46 footer ain't exactly smooth in 4' chop, but then again everybody's opinion of smooth is relative. So is most peoples idea of 4 foot seas. Personally i have not seen a boat yet that will actually "ride nicely" into 4 foot seas @ 40 mph. Yes I know it can be done. I also like to dive with my internal organs intact.
To try to be as helpful as possible, ride in as many boats as you can. Maybe you just haven't ridden in the right boat yet. If you have to choose between a contender and a cape horn, and you don't like either one, search a little longer to find the perfect boat. Your spending a lot of money. I would ride in every boat known to man before I bought.
I have buddies that love their 31 contender & 31 cape horn, but for me, compared to the wellcraft 352, we walk all over them all day long while I sleep like a baby in my bean bag.
Good Luck and post a picture when you buy her :thumps:

Hull warranty or not...You CAN NOT compare the ride of a Contender to a Cape Horn...40mph in 4 footers?? You plan on running an offshore race?? As far the HPDI's blowing up left and right... I'd like to see that. Do yourself right...jump on the Contender...

Nope was not planning on racing on it until brad comes up with his boat :D we gonna race to the grounds.. But I can assure you if they calling for 4 ft I will let him win cause I will be in bed. As far as the hull warr. Dont understand why Contender will not stand behind there boat for the full 10 years reguardless of who owns it JMHO. If I take this guy up on the 05 for 125k man I am going to be pissed if something comes up with the hull after a year or 2. At least with the CH the warr is transferable 10 years and lifetime on the stern. We will see after this weekend if the contender is a nicer ride I will get it, If I like the CH better well i get that one.
yep from the reading I have done and the people I have talked to the HPDI 300 and 250 had MASS issuse during 2004-2005. Lots of people talking about the #4 cylender going as a result of to much PSI comming from the fuel injection. They were blowing up with 10-120 hours. One guy had 3 blow up on him all under 10 hours. Thats one guy, outta how many that had no problems. I have not had any first hand Exp with the HPDI but I can read.
Now compairing the ride of a Cape horn to a contender, I have no Idea I am going out on both boats one fri and one Sat. I want a smooth ride and dry. I know if it kicks up I am gonna catch spray but I do not want to take a shower in 2 FT. Do you own a contender? Is it a smooth ride? Ever been on CH?
Thanks

I can GUARENTEE for a motor to blow with 10-120hrs on it, it was not broken in correctly...too much psi on cyl #4??? What about the other 5 cylinders??
Proper engine break-in is something that was heavily stressed at the past two Yamaha tech seminars.
The marina that I work for has over 700 boats in storage that we also service, 85% having Yamaha power....We are a 5 Star Yamaha dealer,we get all the service bullitns and this is something I've yet to hear of.. IMO you cant go wrong with HPDI vs 4 stroke...but I'd give the nod to the four stroker on fuel and not having to buy gallons of oil.... :D
We are a Contender dealer and having 700 boats to compare with, I gotta pick it over a Cape Horn. I'm not knockin the CH but I think it's apple and oranges....

Wise words there. No substitute for a sea trial in snotty conditions.
