Its a focused ray of light, which I call a "LAA SEERR BEEAAM"
Steel Shootin'

It was invented in 1997 by Dr. Parsons.

It was quite a "project" he undertook.:D

$10 says Gman has one on his speargun, which incidentally, still has the price tag on it in the closet.

If you need a laser to spear fish, you're doing something wrong! I bet it was invented to impress the non-spearfishers at the dock.

Not sure how much help that thing could be. You'd spend too much time aiming at the little red dot . It's not like the fish is going to hang around and let you take the perfect shot!

last time i checked laser beams are easily refracted. water and laaasssseerrrss equels something almost as dangerous as a pond full of trout. me and my buddie went nutz when we first saw the holy grail of all aiming technologies until my manager buddie at scuba quest in brandon said they're not worth their weight in string beans. we never bothered with trying one but my buddie just got one that was attached to a jbl reel gun so next time in the water i'll give you a full report on how crappy and annoying they are. ten bucks says i take it off after the first time and yell and scream about how it took so long to get the line unwrapped from around it.
peace,
ben

Idon't know about laser refraction properties, but i used one about a year ago ....not attached to my gun but just used an underwater pointer i bought out of divers direct thinking i could mount it later if it worked ......well it sucked, beacuse you couldn't see the damn thing unless you pointed it under the darkest ledge you could find then if you flashed your light in there to see if you could kill something , the laser disappeared. from my experience the only time you could see it was at night or in deep crevices. it was just not bright enough in the daytime.

I think I'll get one anyway, attach it to my speargun to form the ultimate killing machine. I think I'll call it a "Death Star".

Like to try one on my hole gun. Nice to know when it's pointed for a head shot instead of a filet window.
Might need to adjust it for paralax. My hole gun needs to shoot a max of 36".

One of my dive buds has one on his gun. About the only thing it was good for was you could get above & behind the ledges and shine it in front of the hole and sometimes they would ease out the hole to check out the pretty dancing red dot and present you with a shot.
You can do about the samething with a laser pointer also.
As far as color it will stay red since it is own light source.

I took one of those $20 underwater laser pointers and straped it on my gun. First time out the vis was bad, and the particals in the water made it lool like we were using light sabers from the Star Wars movie. Cool if you Darth Vader, not Reef Vader:cool:
