just got back from a dive trip 9-26-03 out of sabine pass. shot limits of red snapper, largest being 30 inches and several mangove snapper. went out about 30 miles to a rig. visibility was about 30-40 ft. seas running 1-2 water temp 83

Sounds like a good trip. What boat did you go out in? Is red snapper season still open?

i have a 19' center console. season is open until end of oct

you bring up a point I was meaning to post about. What size of boat would you guys consider the minimum to head 20 miles out to the rigs with? I have a small one I'm considering trading in, and I'm now hooked on this spearfishing thing, so that has factored into deciding on a new boat.
Minimum length, minimum engine HP, and one engine or two?

P.S. I'd be happy to pay for the gas on anyone needing a buddy out there
