Here is a recent article from the Maui News newspaper in Hawaii: Just brings home the fact we shouldn't be doing this stuff solo:

A lot of us freedive/spearfish, what this man was doing was practising breathold, apparently pushing his limits, which is unsafe alone, but not the same as solo spearfishing (unless you are trying to push your limits!) zeN||

It is similar in the fact that many of us do practice breathold spearfishing. I know I have pushed my limits before underwater while hunting. The point is we should have partners close at hand in case of shallow water blackout.

"Unless you are pushing your limits" the idea that you should have a buddy with you is a matter of how much personal risk you wish to take, and where you are spearfishing, if you are spearfishing alone you ought to have enough grey matter not to push your limits ~Z
