We're headin to Arkansas!!

Hey all you Arkansas Spearos! My three boys and I are heading to Little Rock area on July 8 and we're wondering where to do some camping and spearfishing nearby. We're thinking about Ouachita or Conway or Catherine....any suggestions from you local folks would be greatly appreciated. Freediving is the way we go and I hear that ouachita has the fish deep in the summer. Conway average depth of 6' and deepest depth of 18' sounds attractive. But I just don't know where to focus our efforts for maximum fun. We've thought about trying to camp on one of the Islands we've heard about on ouachita. Thanks Guys! :confused: :eek:

go to lto the big O, lake conway has no vis you can't see you hand in front of you face in conway :( . or go to degray :lol:

Just got back from Degray, i'd say go to Ouachita if you want good vis. Degray has some algae bloom going on, looks like snow in the water... vis is 10' TOPS around the dam-end of the lake. not at all what i was used to back a few years ago when i dove Degray alot. used to have 15-20' vis regularly. oh well. the fish were hard to find as well, they were all deep.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the info. I've finally decided to try Greers Ferry Lake on the 8th. Have any of you ever camped at on the southern end of the lake? I was also wondering if you could suggest some places to check out on that end of the lake. I've got my kiddos with me and they all freedive along with me, ages 6, 8, & 11. We're just looking to shoot enough for dinner each night we're there. (I'm the only one with a gun!!) But they are getting anxious to give it a try. Anyway, if anyone can give some hints on good put in points with our canoes we would be very greatful. Thanks guys

GOOD PICK!!! you should shoot lots of fish, I will be there to, in the fairfield bay area. if you are wanting to camp in the lower part of the lake, you should camp at cove creek park,lots of close places to shoot fish,lots of rock piles. I will be there this next weekend I will post how we did.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the info. We're looking forward to the trip and welcome any updates from you all between now and then. We're now thinking of driving up from Little Rock for a day of fun and then heading back for the evening. Then maybe going over to Ouachita to check it out as well. I just ordered a new gun and am looking forward to using it on some of those Arkansas critters!

6/30/07 spearfishing trip @ grerrs ferry. was great. shot 30# blue cat, limit of walleye,limit bass(all species), and a 9 pound cat. great day. fvis was 13ft, and fish were 8-35 feet. walleye were below thermocline!!!!!!!!!! :lol:
