Pipin will attempt to set the new world record for no limits. This is being held on the 1 year anniversary of his wife's passing, Audrey Mestere, who had died while attempting this record dive.
The dive is to be televised and is being produced by James Cameron. Pipin will attempt to reach 170 meters.....557.7 feet!!
This will be Pipin's first effort to set another record since his previous record dive to 537 feet in 2000, a mark that his wife Audrey shattered during her diving career.
I have not found out which network will be televising it, but with James Cameron backing the attempt, you know there will be something.

A S.I. issue a few months back had a great article on her passing and their love of the ocean, really well written.

It was mentioned on the news on Spanish talk radio, in Miami. A local television station is doing the investigation.

The S.I. article certainly hinted at some neglect & oversights during her fateful last record attempt.

yea there were lots of talk about here 'bail out' not being full, support divers not helping / being 'waved off' by her. kinda late in the year to start to suspect. well makes ya wonder if he will live through this or not.... drama even under the water.... wish him all the best but if he is up for murder for his wife, and doing the same dive she did when she died...same day.... sounds romantic if he joined her. mmmmm have to wait and see.

Just came out on Miami local channel 23 (univision) an interview with an ex diver of Pipin's crew. Couldn't catch his name, but the diver is doing his own investigation regarding the matter.
When I'll find more, I will post it.
I think I know who that diver is...

I don't have any info regarding this, but I do remember that after her death, Deeper Blue had to run a story stating that they would not discuss this, and were removing all posts, as there was pending legal action on something that was originally discussed. I remeber getting an email saying "we will no longer discuss, and so-and-so organizations would not either pending the legal outcome." That makes sense now that you said this, but I do have to warn. With their threats of legal action we need to watch what is said. I don't want to see the Spearboard get caught up in this and for "hosting" these comments which is what I think had happened to Deeper Blue. But that is my speculation and may be totally misinterpreted.

I just stated what I saw on local tv. Every Dick and Harry could have watched what was aired. I am not trying to instigate anything into that matter. I have my own opinion, but that's another .02. For all the Pipin apologists, I have said nothing!

Thats a big snapper. Whats he going down there for again ??? If there aint no fish down there it wouldnt interest me much. Hopefully he survives.
Here's another opinion/prediction (and I hope I'm wrong), Pipin will not break the world record in his next attempt.

Check me if Im wrong but arent these the potential outcomes; 1. He makes it and breaks the record or 2. He blacks out and quite possibly dies. Either way he gets no fish. To each his own I suppose.

Well I was wrong...again. Some sources told me he was not focused enough and would not break the record. Now, I hear he broke it rather easily. Despite all the controversy surronding him, he is still a monster at the sport and perhaps the best freediver ever.

if not the most pig headed. It seems like maybe he should have pushed himself last time instead of Audry, the SI article althougth sanctioned by him still piants him in a rather chovanistic ligth. just my 2 cents

It amazes me that people can dive that deep without worrying about taking an O2 TOX. hit. I wish him luck and hope he doesn't meet his wife's fate.
