Hi all,

I'm an Aussie spearo who is stuck in the Mojave Desert for the next 3 years. After living 500 yards from some of the most awesome fish and lobster-filled waters on the East coast of Oz for years, I'm really struggling to stay sane out here in the desert. I've brought most of my gear with me, including my 1100 Picasso Century and 1300 Edge, but unfortunately left my 1500 Rabitech and 900 wooden gun back home. I'm keen to travel anywhere on either coast for a dive, but especially the East coast between San Diego and San Fran. I have a fair bit of experience, having dived for about 16 years in everything from shallow sandy areas to deep Blue Water stuff and everything in between. I owned my own boat up until moving here and have done a lot of rockhopping too.

At the moment I haven't got an SUV (hope to by xmas) so I'm limited to where I can access, and given there's not much room in the Porsche :thumps: I'm not sure how much gear I can bring with me, but I'll have all the basics for a shore dive and can bring enough for a boat dive if needed.

So basically I'm looking for someone who can show me some good spots (doesn't have to be your 'secret' spots, but I can keep a secret if you are willing to share) and maybe point me in the right direction or onto some boat dives, especially the islands off LA/San Diego and the off shore reefs.

I'd also like some advice on the rules and regs for spearing in CA, and maybe some links for the same, as well as fish ID, etc.

Oh, and most of the time I have every second friday off, so I'm looking at weekend dives only, especially on my long weekends.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

-Scott

The Porsche will be fine for any shore access between Mexico and San Francisco. The only unpaved roads you'll have to traverse will be a few parking lots.

I have every other Friday off as well. I am new to spearfishing, but would like to have some company if you ever in the San Diego area. Shoot me a PM and let me know.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure how soon I'll be heading down to San Diego. At this stage I'm planning a trip to the coast around Lompoc, up to Monterey then back to Ridgecrest in the next couple of weeks to do a recce. I definitely want to head down south before mid August so I'll be in touch with those of you from San Diego who've offered.

Thanks again.

you ought to send elgringopelon a message if you need a car as that's his area of expertise
