I need some info ASAP. We have a 3210 and this problem started yesterday.. The sonar locks up and a waring comes up saying "transducer disconnected, Sonar turned off" It still works intermittently, but we were going to run a trip to the Tortugas tomorrow and that will likely be called off due to the unreliability. We replaced the GSD 22 and still had the problem, got a spare transducer from the marina we bought the boat and hooked it up to the GSD 22 and dropped it in the water and it seemed to work perfectly.

My question is, can you replace the transducer (bronze thru-hull) w/o having to take out the whole thru-hull mount or does it have to be cut out and re-fiberglassed?

Is it on a fairing block?

i'm not sure...i don't have much understanding about transducers. I'm guessing its not b/c the transducer is mounted in the center of the hull where there is a flat area. I accidentally posted this in the Guns section so i am going to repost it in the "all about boats" section

I'll try to post a pic in a 15 min. or so... Also the transducer i plugged in isn't the same one we had, it was a regular mountable transducer i think.

If it has a fairing block, you might have to replace the whole thing, depending on how careful/hard it was to remove. If it doesnt have a fairing block, just unscrew the brass nut and push it out. There's going to be alot of 5200 on there. So be ready for a battle.....

If you are pinched for time you could leave the thru hull in place, screw a transom mount in and go fish.

No time to install the transom mount but we do have one that worst comes to worst we can troll it around slowly, we're also prepared to try and snag the wrecks... Shall be interesting. Thanks for the info guys.

You could mount the transom mount transducer on a board, and either slide it down in behind swim platform just underwater while running, if possible, or tied to ladder or something, just till you can pull out the boat and get a new thru-hull transducer.

A transom mount takes literally minutes to install. 4 Small screw holes to mount the transducer and a couple above the water line to run the cable up the transom. Super easy. That being said I'm assuming you are using the Garmin Marine Network. You likely have a cable problem and not a unit problem. I have the 3210 and GSD22 as well with no problems other than my thru-hull transducer doesn't even work as good as my transom mount and I was expecting to have deep water figures. I will have to investigate what the capabilities are supposed to be because I only get 150 feet from the brass/bronze (whatever) thru-hull I have. Which really pisses me off after spending the time, money and drilling a big ass whole in the bottom of the boat.
