View Full Version : Garmin Handheld GPS 76csx
Does anyone here know how to put shapes and lines on the GPS unit? I finally put the mexican border on my GPS and the only way I can figure out how to put a line on it is by making it a route. Also, I want to put the restricted fishing areas on my GPS unit as a box/polygon.
Here is a picture of what I have already done (this is from saturday):

Heck, I have had a Garmin 76 for two years and haven't made as much progress as you have....:) It is an excellent unit for the price!!
I will let you know when I figure it out. Also, I can send you the garmin file with some of the spots on it.
That look like a lot of swimming around.
I am thinking about buying the same unit.

LOL, I used my ski. That is at least 10 miles offshore.
Does this thing work like a regular GPS in the car with maps?
Also if it was used on a kayak where someone does not cover so much ground how small of a map can you zoom in on?
I use it on my rental cars, kayak and my float board too. It is accurate to 15', good enough to find some high spots that I marked.
It is just like a car gps, you can zoom in real close.

The 76csx should float and it is water resistant to a couple of meters.

I traded in my 76Cx for a 60Csx as I liked the form factor and button placement better; but I also dive from a boat and dont' worry about dropping it in the water. I have purchased the blue chart and NA street navigation for it as well and it works great. One of the only bummers, as said earlier, is that the charts don't show the detail of the restricted zones (which my C-MapNT charts did). For instance, all of gull island on Santa Cruz Is. and the surrounding area is restricted but it doesn't show you on the bluecharts. If you can figure out how to enter those borders in that would be awesome as I know I am interested in marking those areas on my maps so I don't get ticketed for being in them. Using the GPS coords works, but it sure would be nice to see a line/picture/border.

And one more thing...in regards to the fish finder. It does say in the manual that it (GPSMAP 60/76) will accept NMEA inputs, but I haven't looked in to it at all. This would allow you to integrate the GPS data with your existing fish finder, etc. but I'm not entirely sure how that would work. I don't think you could control a sounder with one of these units.

The problem was that we didn't have the exact coordinates to begin with. But that was freaking funny, we are retards.

I just got one of these for christmas. it's the 1st gps unit i've ever had and haven't figured out how to use it quite yet. can't wait to figure it out...looks like it's a handy lil gadget for you.
get a memory card and save your tracks to it. Download the tracks to your computer.

I left the same harbor that I think is in your avatar with my friend Ralphthehalibut. He got me into it. We have gone over 30 miles offshore looking for paddies. I have the same ski as you, one is supercharged and the other is not.

Damn if you ever need a tag along, please hit me up. Im in love with loooong rides. Problem is i have no other friends with skis only boats. And i usually blast up and down the coast. I'm alittle nervous about heading straight out with no radio or gps. I'm planning on buying them soon tho.
Get the glove box that has a cradle for the Garmin GPS, it is awesome!
What is on the right side of the ski?
For sure, you should come out there. It is a blast.

Where did you get that cradle gps? Do you have a link?
The thing on the right side of the ski is a bodyboard. My brother, friend and I all own the ski. We bought it for our Video production company. We intended to use it to shoot vid and photos from. Do tow outs not "tow ins" with bodyboarders. And do some exploring for waves up north with it. But pretty much they never use it. And I am the only one that ever takes it out. So it works out well for me.
Here are a few pics i took a couple weeks ago of the tow outs we did. Usually what i do when the waves are flat.

WOW, there you go! I have never seen that with bodyboards. We are going to have some fun together.
