I hope this is in the right forum. Newbie learning freediving this year.

I'm looking for any tips or advice re travelling with freediving gear on a plane. I"m going to Fla in the fall and would like to do some diving there. I won't be bringing a speargun but would like any advice on how to pack/travel with the other equipment so it's secure - those long fins, mask/snorkle, weights, etc.

Also, I"ve heard you must allow at least 24 hrs after freediving before getting on a plane. Is this correct?

Thanks!

its 24 hours for scuba diving but you could always be safe... some weird sh*t goes on with flying.

my fins i carried on the plane with me, everything else (wetsuit, gloves boots, mask snorkle, knife...) went in a duffel bag and survived, i just wrapped my mask in a boot just in case of impact. i sent my gun and just bubble wrapped it and put it in a snowboard bag. told anyone asking that it was "dive gear" and checked it.

like hell im bringin weights on the plane! i borrowed some from my uncle once i got there. i brought the belt, left the weights.

think about it: if most of you'r gear is in the middle of a wetsuit in a bag, the neoprene is going to take most of the hit

I would look into renting weights from a dive shop while you are down there. As for flying after freediving, how deep will you be diving?

Good tip about renting weights.

I'd only be diving shallow - 20ft - maybe 30 at most? Maybe John Pennecamp state park, or the National Marine sanctuary on Looe Key in the Keys.
