Saturday we went out of Dana Point Harbor. I had two of my friends no show. So My Dad and I went out, we had plans to go out to the 14 mile,209 and cruise to Catalina, when we got outside the harbor walls it was ugly and choppy with overcast. I told him about another spot down the way alote closer and we sat for 10 minutes thinking about what would be better, we decided to go for it. Despite the choppy crappy weather it took about 2 hours to get to our spot a couple miles off the island after we stopped at the 14 mile bank. We stopped on 1 small paddy and their was nothing home. We trolled for about 40 minutes and still nothing. We rolled up the lines and starting looking for paddy's, again we came up on another small paddy and went up wind shut the motors off to drift by it. As I stood on the highest point of the boat I looked over to see about 15 Dorado's swimming around. I about S*#t my pants because it has been awhile since I have seen some dodos. We tried fishing and we trolled around the paddy so that my Dad would have a chance to catch something. The dodos actually ate the chovies we were throwing out but would not touch our lined baits.Smart bastards. So I said screw this, I grabbed my gun and slipped in the water right behind the boat next to the paddy and the school of dodos was right behind the boat about ten feet so I swam about 4 feet off and they came right up to me I took a shot on one of the smaller ones because as I got closer they started to turn and go.I stoned the dodo right behind the gill.(15lbs)the first one. we Stayed on the paddy for 30 minutes and nothing came around. Finally I saw some blue and Yellow in the distance, I started to swim towards it and they started to swim faster away from me. The vis was only 15 feet so it was hard to see them. I got closer and they wanted to go faster. I swam down about 15 feet and they slowed down. I came up from underneath them and when they saw me again they started swimming to the left and the biggest bull in the school cut right. I could tell he was curious of me. As I started to swim towards him he started to dive so I did the same, I was about 25 ft deep as we came closer he started to turn I took the shot from about 12 feet away I hit him right behind the gills at an angle so the spear went up towaards his head not penetrating all the way. He did not fight or even try swimming.(stoned him too) As I swam for the surface the spearshaft was coming out of his head. I slowly pulled him to me and grabbed under his chin and swam for the boat.Luckily he did not fight or swim hard because he would have came off the spear.(Bull was 21Lbs) When I got to the boat I told my dad I had another he said yah right you havent been in the water for 1 minute. I showed him the fish and he got all happy. We hung on the paddy for another 45 minutes and they never came back.I tried to talk my dad in getting in the water but he said no,the water was 73 degrees so you can trunk it he said no I am ok. So we took off and tried elsewhere with no luck but, two dodos isnt a bad day. I know I didn't see anybody else at the docks with fish. Everbody I talked to said it was dead all day. That sucks!!!! This post is to my friends that did not end up showing up. This is what happens. MORE FISH FOR ME!!!!!!!!!HA HA HA HA
