Oh, I may have mispelled Striper!

As 55G reported, he got his first Stiper last Sunday.

I got a late start on Saturday as it was raining when I got up. The thunderstorms were supposed to go through noon; the forecast was for partly cloudy skies in the afternoon.

I got to my favorite Striper spot about 1:30. I put some of my homemade flashers in place, and made my first drop to about 60 feet. Shortly after I got to the bottom, a small male Striper buzzed me and took off. Within a few seconds I was engulfed by an entire school of fish with several large sows. Just as I needed to push off the bottom and head up, one of the females came by for a closer look and I made a shot through her gill-plate. This took a lot of fight out of the fish and I was able to drag her up with me as I ascended.

This beautiful fish weighed about 35 pounds and had lots of eggs. They were bright green!

Because you can only shoot one fish, I was done shooting Stripers for Saturday. I went back on Sunday and shot another Striper in the afternoon. This one required more effort as it was considerably deeper.

I'm crying foul here.

You promised strippers, and all I got was a striper.

Hey Catfish-hunter. Have you ever tried spearing in the Current, Eleven point or Jacks Fork rivers?

Ive done several canoe/tube trips and wonderd about a small gun and the rough fish in the streams.

Hi Fowler,
As I understand it, spearfishing in Missouri and Arkansas is only allowed in "impounded waters", so spearfishing in the rivers you mentioned would not be legal. I haven't checked the regs in several years, so maybe this has changed, but I kinda doubt it. I'll be glad to check on this if you like. Send me a PM; I'll call the AF&GC and get back to you.

Nice fish. I wish we could shoot stripers in California. Its lame that we can't seeing as how they're not even a native fish here.

I rarely stray from the California section but when I saw Strippers Galore! I had to check it out.

Congrats on a great fish. I didn't know freshwater spearing could be so exciting. I don't want you to reveal your spot, but what lake, river, or even state were you in?

Whether or not Les reveals his secret spot, there is a place a lot closer. Its legal to shoot them in the Colorado River, and I've seen photos taken by local guys who went out there and got nice catches.

Its one of those things I've always meant to try, but never get around to it.
