My buddy Lee and I try to stick a deeper wreck or 2 into vacation plans when we can. This year we were re-visiting the Queen of Nassau and another nearby wreck in 200'
Lee bought down Ts of He and 02 and we mixed our bevy of tanks up.We dove a 20 min BT in doubles with staged al40s and al80s for our deco gasses,50% and 100% 02.He dove a VR3 with BT&table back-up,I dove VPM A tables and BT.
Upon arrival at the Queen of Nassau after checking ac nearby # we noticed that the anchor was slack with the very light wing from the N was countering the light current from the S.We hopped in and the vis and temps went down very gradually as we descended and leveled off around 81 degrees and 30' of vis.We landed in the debris field right next to the ship.I immiediately shoot a #30 plus black and reload, picking my way from piece to piece.Lee had shot a #20 gag when he hit and the shaft passed thru and snagged on the prevalant netting. We met back up @ 10 min and surveyed the rest of the wreck.I shot a gag and we noted the large gaggle of goliath grouper that live there. At least 8 at any given glance were seen.We got to 20 and it was departure time.We ascended and at about 140' noticed a single 10' hammerhead who bolted as we got close. We were then joined by 2 5-6' sharks of unknown species who stayed with us for the next 40 min or so.While I was getting un-geared to get in the boat, one of them evidently took his tax of half of Lee's gag. They left my freefloating stringer alone tho.
Next was a 2 hr surface interval eating and thanking the girls(my wife ,his GF) for picking us up(and missing a lot of thier dive time). We ended up in 200' and dove another wreck that was smaller but held some nice fish.I got worked by a nice black the first few seconds and had only a pretzel for a shaft.Lee shot a #8 hog and we ascended to head in.
Beautiful weather,vis and conditions.
