So myself, Skidoo, and Eric headed over to Utah this past weekend to wrap up the Utah state championships. The final tournament was held at Starvation resv. It was a little over a 7 hour drive but the time flew by as we were all in good spirits even officer JOOS... Skidoo was driving and gets pulled over for doing twenty miles over the speed limit. But when officer JOOS see the Utah state champ is driving well he lets him off with a warning and his phone number. Silly I tell you just silly. So after spending the night in a tent set up in the parking lot we get are crap together and have things ready to go by start time for the first time all season. That's when the tournament gets pushed back an hour because the directer of the tournament forgot his boat. So after putting on our new IMERSION wetsuits ( Great price at thespearfishingstore.com) We decide to take some photos with Mike McGuire. This didn't work out as Mike had 4 new spearos he was teaching and getting ready. So we decide to head to our first spot. The weather was great at this time and the vis well about 6 feet. I get in and right off the bat I need to change my spear out because I lost the end cap to it.( I was shooting a Pneumatic) After the first hour and forty five min. Skidoo and Eric finally pull up to see how I am doing and I have one small bass and one carp. They only had two fish each them selves. This was going to be a long day. We move spots and now the weather is really bad and its cold and rainy. The guys drop me off and move up around a point to beach the boat and get in. I worked my way to them. As I was moving I was seeing more carp and lots of walleyes. I pick up a nice 5 pound walleye which turns out to be the biggest game fish for the tournament. :thumps: I come around the point to see Eric trying to get the boat right. The waves where crashing over the back of it. I tell him we need to move the bow into the wind and anchor it down. We do this and I head out again. Mike McGuire comes up and I tell him what I am seeing and he lets me know that he is doing OK. I get jumped by several of his kids so I decided to bug out and head back to where Eric was. I see Eric's boat just full of water and pushed up on back on its side and Eric is just trying like hell to save the fish ( which by the way he saved my walleye and lost his mask in doing so) that are coming out of the boat because its completely full of water. We pull everything out of the boat and start bucketing water out to keep the nose out of the water. After 45min of bailing water out we finally have a boat we can put our stuff back into. Skidoo walks up and tells us he had 21 fish and his stringer broke and lost half of them. The other half are down the beach. We can't get the motor started and we are getting beat half to death with the waves. Mike rolls by and takes a nice photo of us getting our asses handed to us by the weather and waves. We finally get the boat motor going and Eric and I our trying to figure out how we are going to get skidoo in and all his fish and gear. We decided to leave him on shore and get back to the dock and get someone with a bigger boat to go get him. We make the long run back to the dock and as we are going I am bailing water out and Eric is driving. I take some nice photos and Video of the whole thing. We get Bruce Boyd at the dock just before he pulls his boat out to go get Skidoo. I jumped on to his boat to show him the way and he tells me his son has shot a 27pound 6oz Carp biggest of the tournament and misses the record by 6oz. We get skidoo and head back to the weight in area to warm up and eat. We ended our tournament two hours earlier then the end of the tournament. It was cold and choppy and with a small boat it just doesn't work. After the weight ins We find out that Mike McGuire has taken first place, skidoo takes second place ( he was on scuba by the way) and I take third place. The state championships where a close one. Skidoo wins it all because Shroomy bailed out way early in the tournament because he was really cold and didn't shoot but a few fish. This pushes him to second place and Skidoo because he shot some fish moved up to first. I ended up taking Third place and Matt Boyd took Fourth. Atlantis Divers in Vernal Utah along with OMER and Sporasub donated a ton of prizes to the meet so everyone got some nice goodies. Skidoo and Shroomy got OMER guns and I ended up with some Sporasub grafiber fins. After everyone got there stuff they all headed out. But Skidoo,Eric,Shroomy,Fish Killer 420, and Myself Decided to camp and party. I have to tell you there is nothing better then Hanging out with some cool spearos telling stories and eating some ribs you just cook in a Dutch Oven for three hours as the wind blows and you huddle around a camp fire. Thanks again Shroomy for letting us crash in your nice 5th wheel. Well That's about it. Except for the part where I tell you all. That I messed up and some how formatted my memory card on my camera and lost all my pictures and videos so the ones I do have here are from Mike McGuire. Sorry... First one is Eric and I trying to rescue the boat. The other is what you set if you mess with Team IMERSION. Oh yea one last thing.... COLORADO CARP KILLERS... WE HAUL OURS TO KICK YOURS... THATS HOW WE ROLL.
