Hey jriggs are u hitting the inlet this weekend or wreck?

jriggs
10-04-2007, 12:57 PM
going out in the boat......not sure where yet?

all depends on how much vis there is. if there really is 20' i'll take the 50" mojo and then i can work some deeper water.

otherwise we'll work the jetties, piers, and maybe some bouys if i can talk Tim into heading out a few miles.

spearman21
10-04-2007, 01:10 PM
sweet....I think maybe I will try shark river or manuasquan

jriggs
10-04-2007, 01:21 PM
my buddies could throw me overboard and i wouldn't care where i was....as long as i get into the water with my speargun i'll be just fine:thumps:

we're going to test some different areas around cape may and see what we can stir up. i'm just happy cause we're heading up to Newport in a few weeks and i wanted to get into the water before then to test out a few changes i made to my Wong Northeaster.....plus i haven't shot that mojo stick yet and i've been dying to get some practice with it.

T minus 64 hours till i'm in the water!!!!!!

spearman21
10-04-2007, 01:35 PM
Wow Cape May u guys are really down south.....Yes I hear ya.lol....Hey jriggs what do u think of the Wong North easter......?

jriggs
10-04-2007, 01:54 PM
love it......couldn't hit the sand with it when i first got it.....then i realized the shaft was bent:rolleyes: should be good to go now.....that's why i wanna get it back in the water.

has a lot more power and range than my Omer (but the Omer will always be my favorite gun handsdown...it's really light and quick to aim)

if vis is around 6-8 feet it's my Omer all the way. i've also spent the better part of 2 hours in the pool with my Omer with a target practicing....i guess that's why i feel so comfortable with it. i'm sure the Wong will shoot great once i get more time on the trigger.

spearman21
10-04-2007, 03:02 PM
I hear ya I might get a wong as my next gun something that i could probally use here in jersey but versatile enough to use in blue water too.....Daryl is a great person to talk to and really knows his stuff.....

Yeah the vis was 20ft in shark river no bulshit! I was there at slack high tide.. Saw so many diff species, could see the bottom from the top of the bridge, I threw this thread up in like 2 seconds just to get it out there but didnt have time to elaborate.. The vis in shark river was by far the best i have seen it yet. [I] could see the fish on the bottom before i even dove.I was out yesterday in manasquan and the vis was like 10ft when we got there, then turned to shit once the head boats started rolling in.. There was alot of blackfish could have killed a few around the 5#range but decided just to spectate.. My friend shot a sheaphead in the inlet..I was out fishing in the ocean today{friday} and could see the ancorline down about 15ft so im thinking the vis is still good.. Anyhows diving in the inlets on weekends is a waste of time if u ask me to much boat traffik Go dive the beaches..

Nj divers watch out for CO officer dickhead!!! Some skiney blond dick of a conservation officer gave me and 2 of my dive buddies tickets for not having flags out when we were in the water, I mean we all have flags just didnt have them in.. The CO was by far the biggest dickhead cop ive ever encounterd in my life.. 49$ticket payable to Avon twp.. God how bad does that suck!

No viz in cape may today. Seems some growth in the water has ruined vis in this area. Anyone have any luck?

jriggs
10-07-2007, 06:55 PM
me and two buddies went out to cape may.......was all pumped up and ready to go.....water didn't look that great on the north side of the cape may inlet....but decided to jump in anyway......couldn't even see my fin tips :D

BUST!!!!!!!!

then we shot up towards wildwood and and headed out to one of the mile marker bouys......jumped in and drifted past......maybe 5 feet of vis at best.

BUST!!!!!!!

so my buddy was like "screw it" we headed back in...dropped off the spearfusing stuff.....grabbed three fishing rods off the big boat....snagged some crabs from the bait shop.....and headed back out. started catching Tog and trigger like they were going out of style!!!!!

JACKPOT!!!!!!!!

we each came home with our 1 Tog fish each....keepers were probably around 5# with one near 6# that Tim caught. the three triggers were all good size!!! so Wednesday night is fish taco night this week :thumps:

chip had one break off as we were lifting it into the boat......had to go 9 to 10lbs minumum!!! he was HUGE!!!!!

we were bummed at first but we stuck with it and made a killer day trip out of crappy vis anyway!!!!!

we must have caught 12-14 tog on tackle....with most in the 12" range....the three we kept i'm guessing we 16-18" with in about 20". it was pretty non-stop. so there are good numbers of fish there.....it'll be nice when the limit bumps up to 8 in November.

spearman21
10-07-2007, 07:02 PM

OysterToadFish

33fish33
10-07-2007, 07:32 PM
I was out at the end of the cape may inlet jetty (north side) and coud only see the end of my spear. I could hear em though knock-knocken down there, I just coulden't see em.What is with this viz! Can't what though for the colder water and for things to clear up, it will make it that much sweeter when I stone a striper.

Don't worry about tiger sharks but there are brown sharks aka sandbar sharks that love to come into the shallow water in sept/oct.I was in manasquan inlet a few years ago and had some come past after I had shot some tog.
As a matter of fact that day I had to take a scuba diver back to the point pleasant side because he was harrassed by two sharks on the bottom and wound up surfacing close to me on the manasquan side.Lol I remember his eyes filled out his mask.JJ tomorrows not looking good at this point.Maybe drive down sunday am for high tide.

The water today near atlantic city was super calm and much colder than it was last weekend:thumps:
I had good viz (10ft at slack high going down to about 3 ft three hours later).
It was strange though, the tog were all holed up. Anyone ever see this behavior during calm water? Maybe they're not used to the cold yet? Saw a few striper, but no takers.

jriggs
10-16-2007, 11:59 AM

i'm just getting tired of it.
