A friend of mine just showed this to me these changes will go into effect in 2008

several underwater spearfishing changes will go into effect:
The spearfishing limits will be the same as the regular fishing limits at waters in Utah where spearfishing is allowed.
Jordanelle, Yuba and Pineview reservoirs will join the list of waters where spearfishing is allowed. You cannot spearfish for tiger muskies at Pineview, however.
Joes Valley Reservoir will be dropped from the list of waters where spearfishing is allowed.
Utah's 2008 spearfishing season will run from June 1 to November 30, 2008. You can spearfish only at waters that are on Utah's spearfishing list, and you can take both game and nongame fish at these waters. There's one exception to this rule: you can also spearfish for carp at any water in Utah during that water's open fishing season.

Shroomy can you tell us how these rules are changing from the present rules? I would really like to know that. Thanks, Tony

Currently you can take 2 game fish and unlimited rough fish (carp, suckers, etc.) and there are about 7 or 8 lakes that allow spearing. the current season goes from june 1- sept 30.
Under the new regs we will have a few more lakes to spear in, we will be allowed to take more game fish (numbers vary depending on the lake), and the spearing season will be extended for 2 months (i'd still be out every weekend if i could shoot game fish)

Lake powell was on a three year trial that ends in 2007 and i am not sure if spearing will continue to be allowed.

Lake Powell will remain a lake that spearfishing is allowed. Stripers and carp year round with other game fish allowed from June 1 thru the Nov. 30th
