Here we go again. I was under the impression that the rockfish season closed today also. Just pick up a regulation book from any fishing shop and go by that. Then lets all try and crash the dfg website, becasue it worthless anyways.

Since the season isn't closing, I have a question. Do lingcod move around a lot, or are they like sheepshead and other similar species that you can find in the same spot time and time again? I swear that I've seen the same fish in the same spot at least three times. Is it just coincidence? I already shot some video of him, so now I want to shoot him in the face and eat him.

The rockfish season will be open for a couple more weeks. Remember though that cabezon, greenling and sheephead are still closed. The regs are a mess but this was because of the feds not th Ca DFG.

You should have good luck finding the Ling. I also have seen lings hanging around the same set of rocks for weeks at a time. I would love to watch you shoot him in the face! Good luck!

Lingcod are territorial, especially females and ever more so when they have eggs. I got a pretty good bite from a big momma ling guarding her eggs when i lived in Oregon.

I had a big one bite a rockfish of the end of a spear once while diving in the channel islands a long time ago. The big ling decided he wanted, the fish. and came and got it. Didnt even say please. He wanted the spear to, but I contested the issue. We had a tug of war, and he finnaly swam of with the fishes tail sticking out of his mouth. He was not timid. kind of rude, also. That was my rockfish.

Next time a ling helps himself to your catch. Use your knife and insist that he stay for dinner too.
