Financial Advis, Shooter Dan, and myself are finishing up our technical deep air/nitrox class this weekend, and I am seriously thinking about buying one of the above computers. Anyone have any experience, feedback, ideas, opinions about either of these multi gas computers? How easy is it to switch gas underwater using the wristwatch style Nitek+? After this weekend we will have the basic training to conduct dives to around 180' or virtually double the amount our regular Middlegrounds dives using stage bottles to scrub off nitrogen. I guess our new post signature will be "WARSAW groupers beware, the awesome technical steelslingers are out to get you!!"

I can't comment on those, or on advanced nitrox in general , but I did want to point out the Suunto Vytec allows the entry of three differnet gasses, used by divers planning staged decompression. I've played with mine, and it's very simple to enter the different oxygen blends. When you switch the computer to nitrox mode, it prompts you to enter your second and third mix (which, in my case, there is none). During the dive, you push a button sequence and choose the next gas your using.

The down side, depending on how far you're going to go with this, is that it does not allow for the entry of helium or any type of trimix, so it's strictly staged decompression (or, non-deco) nitrox capable.

You're welcome to borrow mine if you want to take a look at it.

P.S.: You can have that 180 stuff all to yourself. :D

So the Solo Night Staged Decompression Nude Middlegrounds Spearfishing Question may become a reality or a possibility???

I've had some past experience with the nitek 3 and I have one of the new pluses which I use in gauge mode. The nitek 3's are going to be discontinued because diverite finally came out with their nitek that does tri-mix. Contact me offlist if you need any specific info or ask Ron M. to give you the inside skinny. ed

Figure out first how much hang time you want to do before picking. The Suuntos are very conservative and hanging for 20 mins or more at 10' is boring.I love the idea of RBGM computers but they so far seem to increase hang time rather than cut it.At least compared to VPM.It does have a great no hit record tho.Try asking the question elsewhere (techdiver, scubaboard etc..) to find out more from people who actually do it.

Try asking the question elsewhere (techdiver, scubaboard etc..) to find out more from people who actually do it. That's a good suggestion. I meant to mention that myself. Just don't tell them that your goal for scrubbing is to lower your SI so you can kill more fish. :)

I've only had a coupla hits there about spearfishing mostly envirolurkers. The regulars are pretty cool.I have recently cancelled most of my magazine subscriptions after years because of the increasing lunatic left slant on evertything America was founded on esp. hunting and fishing. The cool thing with as many people on scubaboard is to get a few different profiles fromeach of your prospective computers.I use Oceanic dataplus 2 but only because of the liberal NDLs as a deco computer it is rather conservative. From doing long dives and caves the apparent winner as far as hangtime is the Uwatec line.A two gas computer thats conservative may even have a longer deco .Tables are a must for back-up unless you have 2 similar computers.

I just picked up a Nitek Plus at my LDS for $299 which I think is a good deal... He bought a bunch of them at the dealer trade show and they went like hotcakes... I got the last one (thanks for the Xmas present honey!!)
Nice features, cant wait to try it out...

I used a nitek plus for about 3 years ( 2 of them one for main puter one for back up), great little computer . Tends to be middle of the road as far as it being consertive on deco time. No problems switching gasses. The only thing I had problems with was that it is a bit small for my eyes.

Christof you'll like the Nitek plus! I just bought one myself, very easy to use. Took it on five dives over the weekend. Sure does beat using those RDP's.
