how hard is it to do this on a regular sea hornet? should i take it to an SS dealer or do i send it straight to Spear One or what? the reason i ask is i almost bought what looked like a 48" teak limited off e-bay last night but some no doubt ebay "pro" snaked me with 29 seconds to go. Does that happen all the time, i am a first timer? anyway i would appreciate any info. all i am really asking about is the barrel with the band slots. thanks

On Ebay, don't even bother bidding until the last minute. All you'll do is drive up the price and someone will beat you who DOES wait till the last minute.

Look ahead at the close date on the auction and use the back and forward button between the bid and description page to do a sec by sec countdown.I got a gift loran for a coupla buddies last week that way.I had 1 guy try to get me at the last minute but I had proxied a coupla extra$ up to my limit.I try to find an auction closing when I can be at the computer cause I hate that .

I buy and sell stuff on eBay all the time...
Here's what works for me:
Wait until the auction has like 5 minutes left. Decide right then the max you are willing to pay for the item.
Refresh the screen until you have 30 seconds left for the auction to close. Place your bid, then verify your amount and submit on the next screen. By then you will barely get in your bid and the auction will be over. Then... you refresh one more time and see if you got it or not.
I actually don't like buying to much stuff on ebay because there is such a demand for a good item you almost pay for what a new one costs where you can get a good online deal. But it sure is great for selling - you can sell ANYTHING there. Don't believe me - try it.
I sold almost $10k worth of stuff on there this past year and my garage is still a mess! I just sold a float-on boat trailer on there for a friend.

I don't buy a lot of stuff on ebay, because like you said, good items go for too much. But when I do find something I want, I find that I usually miss out because I'm not in front of the computer to bid at the last second. Check out eSnipe.com. You tell it how much you'll spend, and it enters it with 20 seconds left in the auction. Pretty cool, and not too expensive.

To make things easier for you, have 2 windows open; 1 to refresh the item screen, the other all set up at the bid confirm screen with the amount you want to place. That way you only have to click once to place the bid and aren't rushed.
As Scott said, places like Esnipe and Auctionsniper.co are good choices too. I've never used Esnipe, but Auctionsniper lets you specify how many seconds before the end you want the bid placed. You can get down to under 5 seconds if you want and it's still pretty good at getting them in.

fishkilla,
i saw that but the guy selling was saying that it said sea hornet on the handle so maybe it was some homemade rig. anyway, back to the original question does anyone know how hard it is to put an SS commercial barrel on? would i be better off just sending it to Spear One or an SS dealer or what?

Riiggghhtt. Sniping is apparently a secret skill that only we knew. Now that we’ve told, what, 10 other people, the secret will spread like wildfire and you’ll never make money off Ebay again.
Fact is, if something is in demand, you’re not going to get a deal on it no matter when you bid. There are plenty of idiots willing to pay too much to go around. No reason to contribute to the madness.

I did bid on the gun ($10), after the auction the seller emailed me saying he also had a 52" available for the same price (he sent the message to all bidders). Drop him a message if interested. He said the other one also includes 3 shafts (but no bands).

I saw the gun when he listed it (lousy description) and sent him a email asking if there was any writing on the trigger, I didn't mean for him to post it on the add, drove the price right up...

The ad says it "comes with 2 long bars, one with a tip on it"
Hmmm, sounds like this guy is a seasoned slinger.
