Rigging my new Golem backplate/wing combo, and have few questions.

Do I trim waist strap so its shorter (say 12"-15" overhang after I test fit)?

Do I mount pony tank upside down or upright? I am using QuickDraw bracket

Do I need octo on my primary tank, or stay with pony regulator on bungee around neck?

I want to avoid extra hoses and stuff if possible.

BTW, GolemGear.com makes some sweet equipment! :thumps:

I personally mount my pony right side up and I have it mounted so both it and the main tank sit on ground so it will stand up right. I also kept my octo rig on my main reg. I do it a bit differently than you are planning. I have a long hose main reg with a bungee necklace octo. I wear my pony reg clipped to my right hip.

Wolf....I use two quick draws and love em.......one for 21% air bail out 19 cf pony and one for 80% oxygen deco 19 cf pony. Like Tally, I square them with the ground so the rig stands up. It is critical they be turned on before diving or else one would have to take their BC off to turn them on under water. But, I have buddies who rig their ponies upside down and turn them on under water when needed. To each his own in my opinion. Tech trainers prefer slung deco bottles that have to be turned on under water. I have an inline on/off valve (from Silent Diving Systems) for my back mounted deco bottle as a part of my three step deco bottle deployment safety procedure. Remember - oxygen toxicity from breathing the wrong mix at depth has killed many a tech diver.

Wolf, if you are doing tech diving below 130 feet get the training certs dude.

I use an H valve on my primary tank with a primary reg and a secondary reg on a bungee around the neck. You could use an "Air Source" as the octo I guess. Regardless I think you need an octo or secondary reg on the main tank in case the primary reg fails. Both my primary and seconday are top of the line regs as I learned the hard way about that with a failure below 200 feet. The bail-out pony saved me.

I want to avoid extra hoses and stuff if possible.

I have my pony regs attached to the right side of my BC on the D rings. My two main tank regs are also on the right with the main reg on a long yellow hose for donation to a dive buddy in trouble while the secondary reg is on the neck bungee mentioned above.

1. see for suggested fitting: http://www.baue.org/faq/backplate_sizing_inline_images.php

2. However you mount it you want ALL valves accessible. I prefer a slung bottle underneath my left arm, the reg & hose secured with bungee or inner tube (ala DIR). Pressurized, but valve not open. You wear your primary & backup as you always would.

3. Is this intended as a "bail-out" bottle or as a "deco" bottle ?
I echo another's advice, if you plan to dive below 130 feet get the required training and use an appropriate mix.

Your best back-up is a good dive buddy.
