Dyno and Straightup have both been my friends for more than half my life...
I know both of them to be good people never spouting off about anything unless they see some type of wrong in it. If you don't know Dyno....well it's hard to understand his point of view sometime. But I know he wouldn't accuse anyone of anything that they did not do.
It seems to me that the tournament needs a little work in the rules, but like Chad said, there are touraments that have been around since day one and they still change the rules every now and then.
Can't we all just get along! hahhhhaha

Mr. Gullick,
It is very commendable you take the time to stick up for your friends and I’m sure they are good guys. But Dyno did make a mistake lashing out in a public forum (originally under another’s screen name) at people that are respected and trying to do the best they can to promote our sport. Personally, I deal “straight up” with people and let them know how I feel (privately) and how can I help. By dealing “straight up” you will be respected.
Also, it is not always easy to admit mistakes, but in the end you’ll be more respected. We all “screw up” time-to-time and it takes our character to make things right!
Sincerely,
Dave Earp

Hey Straight Up - Please don't take what I said as a generalization of you/Dyno or to offend you.... that's not the intent. I do use the term "straight up" often when describing how I deal with people, no pun intended. As for the public forum... I wasn't the one to start the thread or nor have I ridiculed anyone...so I'll stand by my character!
Dave
PS - I will edit my first post from the word "they" to "Dyno". I do see how you can feel that is a generalization and like I said, that is not my intent.

Bucket one,
We were out at one of my secret spots. We had been Freediving for about 20 minutes or so. I was diving with an old 2 band custom riffe and bouy rig. There was plenty of jewfish swimming around. When I first saw the Cubera a I thought it was a jewfish. But then it flashed its stripes. I pointed the gun towards it but I did not have a good shot. So I did not take it. "I dont like to poke holes". I then surfaced and got my Riffe Island out of my 19' Carolina Skiff. I was not sure if I would see the fish again but I thought it would be best to be ready. After searching the wreck for another 20 minutes or so I decided to look in the sand. Sure enough there he was. White with grey stripes. He started to make a large arch back towards the wreck. The vis was only about 20 feet and he was right on the edge of it. I let the steel fly.
After I Pulled the trigger I grabed my Float line. The line wizzed through my hand " I am sure most of you free divers Know this feeling" My long line torpedo bouy flew by my head. It was like the movie Jaws.
After sufacing to catch my breath I found the bouy sticking out of the wreck I grabed it and the line went limp. I Knew what had happened. I did not use a cable on my shaft the line was rigged for blue water.
Rather than waste time freediving around the large wreck and risk my life to enter it with a pissed off fish I grabbed a tank from the boat and the old Riffe. I swam back down and spotted the fish way up in the wreck. I entered through a small whole and lined up a kill shot. Well the head of this thing was so big I missed the kill Zone. It charged at me now looking like a Rhino or Unicorn. I dodged and it proceeded to bend up that shaft like a paper clip. I thought the Whole wreck was going to come down on me. I then surfaced and grabbed a mini magnum which someone had left at my house. Upon returning to the wreck I found the fish on the other side. This time I did not have to enter the wreck. I lined up my shot and took it. missing the kill zone again. The next thing that happened I could not believe he snapped the magnum shaft in half and dissapeared into the wreck. With no shafts left I went looking for the fish. I figured I would try to rip his gills out or something stupid. Fortunatly While looking for the fish I found the Original shaft I had shot him with. I surfaced got the Island loaded it and relocated the fish. This time it was over. Not many fish can survive a point blank shot with such a Big gun.
I have Shot three of these Cuberas and seen many more on what many would consider inshore wrecks. But Initial contact is usauly when I am laying on the bottom while freediving. I have also seen some 50lb pluss blacks but have not had a good shot. The big fish are there. You just got to stay down for at least 2 minutes before they will show themselves.
All of these fish were eaten and no body got sick

Even I don't carry a second spear when freediving, but I do use the light holder.

If someone from this thread shoots a grouper at the bottom in 180 ft freediving, I'll promise you that I will become a Gator (I will even go on record saying that Bobby Bowden, although on the sidelines, has not coached a game in eight years) and a Buc's fan, will only scuba, buy a house in Tampa and organize a weekly poker game with the Hermes brothers.

I get a feeling the Hermes won't sit at a poker table with you even if their lives depended on it:D
