The only way you can participate is to be part of nationally reconized club! And they can't stop you from fishing in the area during the nationals, but it would be quite rude, as you have about a 100 competitors coming in from all over the country, scouting for weeks before the tournament, and then some non competing diver end up on there favorite spot they have been scouting. Not cool!
So my suggestion is that you Jersey Boy form a club and then you will be able to send competitors. And then we will see what you are made of.
You can also join clubs that are not sending there full amount of divers and represent them, But this is a perfect situation for you boy (and gals) to start your own club!
Good luck,

yo d&o......i did talk to Rob about it sometime ago....he gave me some info...i plan on giving him a call to really talk to him about it. even if i'm not really up to par for the comp part i would be willing to set up the team in NJ and manage all the paperwork and stuff. there are a hundful of guys i know that are really good spearos....they'll shoot and i'll drive the bus!!!!

hey j riggs,if you did start a club what would the age limit be?
jriggs
01-16-2008, 02:04 PM
no limit......but anyone under 18 would need thier parents permission :D
just kiddin! HAHAHAHA
truthfully....i'd have to look into that. i see no reason why old and young shouldn't be able to enjoy the sport of competition. when i used to rock climb we competed all the time and i had a few freinds that were young...one was 13 and the other was 16 and they were awesome to climb with. thier young age was never a problem due to thier level of skill and cool heads. they were very aware of the dangers of what they were doing and understood that goofing off at certain times was OK....but not all the time.

well then you'll have to join if we get something up and running! if not you'll have to jump in the truck with us this summer when we head up to RI and check it out! if you've never been there before it's worth checking out!!

Riggs, give me a call anytime. I am off of work till Feb. so I have nothing to do except surf spearboard and BS with anyone willing to call. haha
One thing to know about forming a club. If you want to compete in this years Nationals the club must be formed (minimum 10 payed divers) 3 mos. prior to the Nationals. Basically you would have to be all square with the USOA by May.
I am pretty excited to meet a lot of new people and catch up with others. Hey Riggs, I ate down at Brick Alley the other night and was thinking about you guys. I haven't been there in about a year but I remember you all were loving it there.

i'll give you a ring....i think i'm going to take on getting a club started here.....i think there are enough guys to get one up and running. plus it'll give me a chance to head up for nationals and give it a shot.
