C'mon guys, down and out is right,we need a club so we can go to nationals, does anybody know what to do?Starting up a club is a lot of work, Constitution and By-laws, officers, incorporation, meetings, meetings, meetings and more meetings. If you have a group who are interested, and you're here in NJ, contact me. I have organized several scuba clubs over the years. I have the resources of the New Jersey Council of Diving Clubs to help you. The NJCDC is a member of the Underwater Society of America and can "sponsor" your club to their national competitions.

Depends on which nationals and where. If it is affiliated with USoA you will need to be "sponsored" by a member.

You might consider starting a Yahoo group online for NJ spearfishing:
http://groups.yahoo.com/start
once you have collected enough interest you could go to a more formal setup with meetings.

Went to the nationals about 10 years ago in Fla. you have to belong to a dive club here in NJ then get the NJ councel of dive clubs to OK It not a problem. you are representing the diver in NJ. I think you need at least 3 or 4 people. You should get there a week early to scout the area so you don,t wast time looking for a good spot talk to some of the locals and hire a capt. from the area

For the scenario you describe the club must either be a member of the NJCDC or itself a member of USoA. You can join the NJCDC as an individual and be sponsored by them directly.

Went to one about 8 years ago you have to belong to a club then get 3 or four guys together and go to the NJ councel of dive clubs to get sponserd
You should also once you are entered get there a week early to scout the places where the fish are. Also find a local and a boat capt. to show you where the best places are. Check them out. before the turnament. send an E- mail to the organization that is having it and get the rules and applications do that 1st

Went to the nationals about 8 years ago.there is a club in Sea Girt The shore Aquatic club better known as SAC Has members that scuba or freedive or both. To go to the nationals you need a sponsor. We used the NJ council of Dive clubs and the club. They will sponsor you. Then you should get there a week early just to check out the area. find a local that knows the area and hire a captian and boat for the day of the tornament also for a few days before to show you the areas. make shore you have all permits and find out the rules and fish of the area.I went to the one in Fla. We had a 3 or 4 people on our NJ teem.
