hey you guys think a 3mm wet suit would be sufficient for spearing this summer? Reason i'm asking is cuz I got a wicked sweet deal on a 3mm suit.

nope, too thin, either a 5 or a 7,i like the 7 but thats just me,unless the water gets up in the mid-high 70s witch it doesnt do to often i would suggest you get a thicker suit,i think my next suit migh even be the picasso 9mm commercial suit, that thing is awsome.

God bless you Northern Spearos, you guys are amazing, I cannot stand to wear anything thicker than a 3mm, I feel like I can't move, but then again the water maybe gets in the low 50's in the worst of winter in the gulf.

i use a hyperstretch wetsuit,it costs alot more than a regular suit but its easier to move in,i use a 1.5 when i go to florida, you guys are lucky with that warm water, but theres nothing like blasting a striper in 5ft vis in 60degree water

easy now...depends on what type of suit your looking at

if its a nice suit and a deal id take if for sure!. A 3 mill Open-Cell would be great for the true summer months when the air/water gets warm

alot of people have good success with a 3 mill bottom and 5 mill top during peak season.

Assuming it's a one piece....Depends on when you plan to start and end your season and how long you'll be spending in the water. Although you'll probably want more than a 3mil to get the most out of our spear season. I start off in a 6mil then as it warms I go to a 4mil then to a 3mil and back. I end up wearing the 4mil the longest each season. If you can only afford one suit and want to get the most time out of our season go for something thicker. Just be prepared to sweat like crazy during the warmest part of summer. On the other hand if your only able to get out during the height of summer a 3mil will be fine. If it's a nice suit and a really good deal I'd take it. Good suits are expensive these days.

Long Island waters I start with a 2 peice 6.5 and then go to a 3/2 for July August and Sept. I go back to the 6.5 for Oct, Nov, Dec. It is time to replace the 3/2 and I am going with another 3/2. very happy with it. The less weight I have to strap on the better.

For spearing in jersey a 3mm is perfect... U can pretty much sear through all the good months with that. Just make sure u have a hood.. If u wana go in cold water a 5mm would be a good idea but i have never wor a 5 in nj.

I use a 2mm short sleeve full for summer diving so yes a 3mm is more than sufficient, even on the coldest days all we wear are 5mm surfing wetsuits, and all i wear throughout the yr are the o'neill surfing wetsuits, they are warmer and more flexible than any freedive wetsuit that i have ever tried, take a look at the o'neill mutant with detachable hood its a very nice suit

till your lips turn blue and you start to shake uncontrollably :D

ok in all seriousness.....i used my 3mm all summer and into the fall....cause i didn't have anything else. i know have a 5mm Apnea kelp camo that i love but even after being in the water up in newport for about 6 hours (the water was around 60 i think) i was still letting a little water down my neck every once in a while to cool off.

it seems that some people stay warmer than other....or rather that they have a better tolerance of the cold....if you find yourself cold at some point with your 3mm......then go buy a 5mm :)
