It's supposed to be around July 24, 2004 on the island of Oahu on the North shore, Haleiwa area. Most likely spot would
probably be Alii Beach. The area has alot of different game and depths vary from shallow (15'-20') to deep (50'+). Try checking this site, http://www.shorediving.com/Earth/hawaii/index.htm
Click island of Oahu and check out the North shore beaches which also include Alii Beach.
From what I've been hearing some of the best active divers from the islands are coming out of competition retirement since the big tournament will be held here. Should be a good one as the weather and surf is usually perfect for diving that area around that time of year and the ulua (giant trevally) are most abundant.
Hope this helps, aloha and good luck to everyone coming over to compete.

I have tied to go to your site but with no success. We are planning to go to Hawaii for the Nationals. Do you know where the best places to stay on the north shore would be for a good vantage point?

80, 90, 100plus foot diving, eh!!

Looks like I better get training!!!
I'm thinking of heading over to Oahu in a couple of weeks to check it out, but i dont think it's the time of year to dive the North Shore. Does anybody know any nice spots on the south shore that I can dive at?

I've never dove in hawaii before and don't want to show up for scouting being totally ignorant.

Thanks!!!

Ive got family over there, my cousin Dan is actually the anchor man on the TV news in Honolulu. As far as I know the only reason to go to the north shore in the winter is for the killer surf. I think you'd get stomped trying to dive along the coast. I dont know for sure but monster waves may not be good for the vis either. Hopefully our team will be there representin'. Ive got some friends who are hardcore bluewater shooters over on Kauai.

PV,

I was stationed out there and spent my first two years on the North Shore. It's absolutely awesome this time of year . . . but not for diving. South shore is your best bet, with the East side also promising.

Check out http://www.hawaiiskindiver.net/store/board.php for some contacts, and you might want to call Hana Pa'a, the best spearo dive shop out there.

The North Shore is like a swimming pool in July, so the conditions should be good. If you shore dive from Alii Beach Park in Haleiwa, the reef is about 10ft deep and flat for about 60 or 70 yards, then it has a vertical drop to 100ft+. If you kayak out, lots of productive grounds to the northwest. There's a surf break about a mile out to the northwest, so that might be another good reef out there. Good luck!
