I always thought rob allen shafts would work well. Thats what I am going to be using this summer in the islands.

I thought about that too! they are strong, sharp, and cheap. i was thinking about getting some long 7.5mm shafts and cutting them off right ahead of the notches.

i dont even see why you would have to cut notches off. It really wouldnt make that much difference in the end. I have a few old rob allen shafts laying around that are going to make nice sling fodder.

the R.A sling shafts are good but very heavy. gun shaft i dont like how much penetration you need for the barb to go in.. headhunter and ab biller sling shafts are light and dont corrode

Hi pp,
Rob Allen makes a special sling shaft for the USA market.
I import them in spring.
The barb is smaller (2") and is much closer to the tip than the standard RA shaft but, with the same classic RA barb action ie "lock open" feature.
This shaft comes without notches or any grind on the back and has the RA tri-cut tip.
They are thus cheaper than a standard RA shaft and retail for under $30.
I also typically have them plated with a gold/yellow finish to help recover them. An advantage over the standard 17/4 ph dull brown.
I have just ordered my summer batch in 7mm (just over a 1/4") & 7.5mm (just under 5/16'') diameter.
Two lengths available: 160cm (63") & 180cm (71")
They should be here late March / early April.
Size for size they are not heavier than other shafts but OTOH I guarantee they are much stronger than other locally manufactured 17/4ph shafts.
Granted, they will eventually corrode with neglect but, if you rinse them off at the end of a day, they are really good value for money!
Regards,
Mike.

The 7.5mm R.A's with tri cut tip are the only shafts I have found that are weighted properly for an arrow like flight. As the shot arcs, the weight is in the tip. On other shafts I have tried the base of the shaft seems to drop and the tip rises.
