are the BENZ and SWB both pretty painless, relaxed ways to "go"??????

well, no.
benz is painfull..a deep joint pain. never had it happen to me but i have heard stories.
and swb i assume you are referring to shallow water blackout, if no one is there to save you and you dont come to, it would be painless i suppose. but most the time it is a quick thing, a buddy can rush in, retrieve the blacked out diver, get them to the surface and they will come to not even knowing what just happened.

Yeah man this is a really weird post. I can see if it were written differently but this is to short and no info on why you want to know. no one should make a dive their last dive dude. Sometimes its uncontrollable and you don't know its gunna happen but there are lots of things (safety) you can do to prevent it from happening. Whats going on man?

Cant' find the book but the two deep divers that are on TV every so often. Richy Kohler and John ? . Read the book Shadow Divers about a father and son team that die from the bends on the U-Boat that they found.
The two died REALLY NASTY deaths!

Chris and Chrissy Rousse.....They got narced, ensuing panic, blew deco and ended up dying excruciating deaths on the boat
Having been a victim of both I can honestly say you don't want to be a victim of either, nor an air embolism.
All three can cause death but it's rare to die from Decompression sickness or the 'bends'. The term refers to the tunnel workers who would return bent over in pain. You can only suffer from this after breathing compressed gas. Not freediving. It is painful and to die from it must be excruciatingly painful.
Shallow water blackout can occur from alot of deep diving and is usually associated with air packing, where you would hyperventilate and drop the CO2 content of the lungs/bloodstream. It will cause you to blackout and drown if not properly trained. I was lucky and came back to on my own without help. Needless to say I don't airpack anymore.
Air embolism is from breathing compressed gas and holding your breath on ascent. The expansion of air causing bursting of blood vessels lodging blood vessels in the neck or brain causing blackout. Usually instant death and probably painless.
hope that helps, please don't die on us. It's bad for business.

Didn't the younger one make it to the hospital and survive at least a portion of a recompression schedule? Not that it really matters in this context.

You can suffer DCS type one and possible type 2 from freediving. I read a bit about it on DB. It is possible and it has happened. deep dives with short surface intervals it is possible. Also A.G.E. Arterial gas embolism is not instant death. their are symptoms, unconsciousness is usually the most common due to a blocked artery. Affects the heart and brain. but also convulsions, head aches, mood change, loss of motor skills. many symptoms just unconsciousness is usually most associated with A.G.E, because usually death occurs after being unconscious in the water due to drowning, unless you are diving a hard hat or full face mask, then it is just up to your buddy to help you out of the water and ASAP to a recompression chamber. There is a pretty heated thread on DB about DCS if you would like to read it.
