I'm going to drag a boat down to the Keys on 13, 14, 15 and 16 Dec.
Just wondering, anyone have any suggestions for good hunting spots?
I'm told that hunting on the Grove is a no-no. But what about other wrecks?
Any good patch reef outside of normal areas?
Share your tips, I would appreciate it.
Warm regards,

My brother, (johnhermes) just shot a 17 lb grouper on the Eagle. Missed a shot on a really nice hog, too. Normally I'd tell you there aren't many nice fish on that wreck to shoot, but I guess the colder water brought some in!

Warm regards,
In relatively clear shallow water isolated patch reefs can be located using NASA high altitude color photography or Lidar databases. I kknow both of those data sources are fairly complete from Miami north to WPB. I haven't checkd for databases covering the keys but they should have been done as part of the refuge system setup research.
( I know, what should have been done and what actually WAS done when this Clintonista land grab happened are two ENTIRELY DIFFERENT things!)
You have to buy the data, but it can be very productive. Also be aware the photography was done several times farther north. Water clarity varied a lot between the runs. Some show only the 17-30' deep reefs, a couple runs show reefs in the 90' range.

I was spearfishing in key Largo in December, and had my fish stolen by cuda. Check out my messages concerning this. Definitely no spearing on the Spiegel Grove, but there are great fish on the Bibb and Duane but getting them past the several hundred cuda, that reside on those wrecks will be the problem.
Good hunting
