We will have 2-3 spots open on the Jolly Rogers 2 for the 2004 Spearboard Open leaving Friday May 21 as early as the tournament allows, and returning late Saturday night May 22. The cost is $280pp including all meals, bait/tackle for hook and line fishing Friday night, and clean ice for fish upon return. You will do multiple drops on the four tanks you bring. Leave the Faber LP120's at home (aka-submarine ballast tanks), and we might even let you sneak on a fifth ;).
Typical structure will be rockpiles, hard live bottom, ledges, and wrecks from 60'-100'.
Remember this is an aggregate tournament where quantity factors in as well as quality. The offshore waters of Steinhatchee are well suited to producing strong results in this kind of tournament format. We already have A-list spots that have been set aside not be visited until the tournament. Here is a per species breakdown of diving Steinhatchee vs. Middle Grounds.
Grouper -Steinhatchee blows the MG away during the tournament's time of year for number of grouper available. MG has a slight advantage on size, but expect to fill the category with a 12#-15# per fish average.
Hogfish -The one area where the MG is clearly favored. Expect though to fill your category very easily with 3#-6# fish.
Snapper -Steinhatchee advantage due to abundance of red snapper which will be in season. Heavy duty red snapper dives on tap for tourney
Amberjack -Even. It will be a no-brainer for all to get their one 20# plus aj.
Sheepshead/Trigger -Definitely Steinhatchee. We'll hit some shallow stuff on the way in to load up on some big post-spawn sheepies.
PM or reply here if you want in, or have questions. Thanks, standing by.
