I have finally decided to purchase gear....AND...I think I have let my wife buy enough clothes to justify my purchases...

I am in need of a new Regulator and a Dive Computer. I just have no idea as to where I should start looking? I am going to get my nitrox cert, so, I do know that I need a computer that can handle Nitrox...

I guess I would like to know what you guys are using, what you like and why???

Thanks...

Good luck bud. I really recommend getting a Nitrox computer. Otherwise you leave too much to chance by misreading a table and possibly risking your life. There are many computers on the market and if you ask 10 guys what their favorite dive computer is, I am sure you'll get 10 different answers. Many guys prefer to have an air integrated computer (so it also tracks your remaining air pressure in your tanks) as opposed to having an analog guage as well as a computer. It is up to you.

Furthermore, if you are new to spearfishing, I recommend you try to get linked up with some of the experienced shooters on this forum and you'll learn a lot. Good luck Troy.

I use Scubapro and Uwatec and absolutely love them. You can't go wrong with Scubapro or Atomic.

Sherwood Maximus reg (old one not new one) - super easy to maintain and great in all water conditions (cold, tropical, etc.)

Sherwood Wisdom computer is the one I use - has Nitrox, with Quick Disconnect, measures PSI to nearest 5 and calculates time left on smallest of no-deco time, PSI/breathing rate, and O2 toxicity...pretty handy. Also can be set so pretty liberal. Nice big screen...

There are many fine regs. on the market. I've beening using Zeagle BC's and Regs for about 10 years now and have been very happy with them. Most of your major brands such as Scuba Pro & Sherwood are also very good. From what I've heard from dive professionals and divers that use them, Atomic regs are the best. They are also expensive... so it depends how much you want to spend. On the less expensive side... the Zeagle Envoy is a very good reg for the money.

Im a walking Dive Rite add so i guesss that covers it.
All though i dive Apex regs the DS4 no turit with the ATX 50
2nd stage and love them, they actually breath better at depth
and the flow control valves actually work.
See if you can try or rent the gear you would like to buy
to see if you really like it this will prevent buying new gear again in a year or so.
If you buy good quality gear up front and take care of it it
will take care of you for a long time...

Make that another for Apeks, my primary is a DS4 first stage, with the TX50 second, and it's great.

However, like others have said, try out several and see what's best for you.

I can give you a good deal on an Oceanic Datamax Pro Air Integrated computer if your looking - NOTE: It will NOT to Nitrox.

If your budget can handle it I would say jump up to the atomic B2. It has a swivel at on the hose at the second stage, the first stage as a turet swivel to it for ease of hose movement, wider exaust T and the service intervel is 2 years not one (like MOST regs out there). And if you like Rodal’s it was rated top in the price class.

I would have to agree with DiverSpear. I had been using Dacor Pacer XL and Dacor guages until last spring, when I switched to ScubaPro regulators and Uwatec dive computer (SmartCom)! I love them both! I'm not saying they're the best on the market (due to my limited experience with other brands) but I can say that mine have performed very well and I am very happy so far.

There was a recall on those Uwatec SmartComs. In fact, there are a few pending lawsuits against Uwatec (Johnson Outdoors) for defective computers as well.
