Boy all this talk of high wind might keep me from diving this weekend.:rolleyes:

Go ahead and stay on land if you think it's going to be too windy.

That will just make it easier for me to win one of those new Riffe Euro's and maybe the Championship spot!!

All I know is the water is CRYSTAL CLEAR and the BIG FISH are in.

So, if you pass. Don't be cryin' next week because the weather laid down and you missed out.

I was out yesterday when it was supposed to be bad, it was 50ft vis top to bottom at the reef and i shot a 20lb black in about 35ft.Then we got chased out by 2 really aggressive reefies. We went to a few patch reefs shallower and shot 2 hogs, 2 nice 17in and 21in greys, and Angel shot a cuda. Not bad for only 1.5hr I am getting excited for this weekend!

I just received an email from a business acquaintance regarding LIVE coverage of parts of the tournament. Here is part of his email.
==================================================
Hello Dan.
I don't spearfish. I don't fish. I don't even eat fish. You talked me into it. I am here in Key West for the tournament! I brought my tanks and everything just in case I have time to dive.

We will be doing LIVE broadcasting of parts of the Key West Open. We plan on broadcasting the captains meeting at 8pm Friday, the happy hour on Saturday at 5:00 pm and the finals on Sunday at 5:00 pm. We would be happy to do more live broadcasting if we find suitable venues and content. Please send to me any suggestions for other possible subjects.

We just visited Hurricane Hole Marina and Hurricane Joe's restaurant. We selected the area to set up our camera and table later this week. We would love everyone to stop by. Videos and live broadcasting will be at www.CatchingFish.tv (http://www.catchingfish.tv) There are a few photos from my reconassiance already on the site photos.catchingfish.tv (http://photos.catchingfish.tv)

If you or any of the sponsors or participants have photos you would like to submit send them to CatchingFish@helloworld.com . We would also be very happy to post any video that anyone would like to lend us. This is not utube, you will NOT lose your copyrights when you lend your videos to us. (Got really good video? We can post it pay-per-view and pay you!)

We would also welcome anyone in the area to invite us to shoot a little video of them and or their business. Stop by our table at Hurricane Hole and tell us your stories.

I will try to find you in Key West later today.

Alan

east and SE can really kick up the ocean, although it can also bring in the clear water.

realize that the reef is only 5 miles offshore. so its not a far run in rough seas. its the at-anchor time that usually kills ya.

i've been out in 15kts in my 20ft aquasport...solid 3-4ft seas with the 5ft sneaker in there.

it isn't fun...but its diveable.

im tellin you all it will lay down!! sorry the days are the days, and anyway we had 30 hardcore spearfisherman go out in tropical storm, ahhh i cant remember but hey ricky you remember the captains meeting at the topgun freedive championships? here was the forcast

pouring rain up to 3 inches winds from the southwest gusting 30 to 35 with the ocasional 40 for good measure seas 4 foot inside the reef and 6 to 8 outside and 10 to 12 in the straights!!! now that was bad

there were reports of up to 60 ft of vis yesterday, and there are tons of spots closer to shore for at least sat if thats the way it goes but up to 15 is not so bad, i still think because they are calling for isolated showers, means it will lay down, now im not a meteorologist, but i did sleep at a holiday in express last night!!:D

My recommendation is to STAY at HOME. The lineup on ESPN really looks sporty for Sat and Sun. Plus that horse race in Kentucky......how could you miss that? Just relax on the couch, drink beer, play with the kids and then take the family to the weigh-ins. That's where all the fun is! Why go out in questionable seas??? Plus, I heard there are sharks out there! Brad, you may want to re-think this with Gunny.
As for the rest of us, we'll try to make the weigh-in worth your time to change out of those pajamas!

Great weather ! (for diners anyway). Lots and lots of great trophies and spearguns for the winners. 50 entries already.

I need another beer ! Come on down to the meeting and say hello.

I have been back at my base in Marathon for a few hours and re-sized a few of the many images from this year's KWO that I shot today. What a great tournament Norm puts on! Good job! I was able to get first place amberjack which is only the second fish I have shot with my Kudana Bad Ass Double. She weighed 69 pounds which is my personal best AJ. There were some great fish weighed in and I am sure Norm will post up some ranking results soon.

The last shots for tonight. It was great meeting alot of Spearboard members there for the first time and putting screen names with faces. I finally was able to personally meet Johnny Longblades' sister Lindsey. After so many calls and PM's I felt like I knew her well even if through the internet and telephone lines, but there is nothing like finally meeting someone like her face to face. She is a super strong young lady. I hope everyone can make it to the Johnny Longblades Memorial tournament in September. That great event and excellent cause will bring us all back to Key West again this year!

Great tournament. :thumps: Went out with Steve/MobileDiver and hit some decent fish, decent at least for an east coaster who's way outta his league. Some serious fire power showed up at the weigh in, and we saw some incredible coolers full of blacks, muttons & hogs. We don't see fish like that every day in Palm Beach so I did my best not to gawk, but DAMN those coolers were pretty!

Even though they couldn't come close to the prize table, I was glad to get a personal best mutton (12lb) and a personal best black grouper (25lb)

 There's always next year :D

off the top of my head the top fish were

69lb AJ shot by tony

biggest black was 68lbs, i think the winning snapper was a 15.1 mutton, and the biggest hog was 10.1 or something. don't recall exactly, but the winning sport fish was a monster 53 (i think) pound cobia!!!

was nice to see some folks again, makes me sad i'll miss the SBO this year.

but life goes on

Yes Jeff, my memory fades too. So quickly!

I am still in Marathon working on my trailer and posting from my notebook computer.

My recollection (as verified by these photos) is that Damian Waldner with the huge black grouper was the overall grand champion.

Congratulations to Damian! :notworthy
