Weatherman got it wrong Sunday. They were calling for 3-4 ended up more like 3-4 inches. Me, Slay Ride, Eyyeball, and one fisherman headed out for a fast ride out on Slay Ride. I think that big boat is spoiling us. Sipping coffee on the way out laying on the couch with your feet up is the only way to go :) . We found 3 new spots! The current was Ripping. Real hard diving.
First new spot. Converted Loran Numbers. (Thanks offshore hunter)
The conversion was right on the money. Rod and reel fishing caught a bunch of fish. Dropped 3 divers on the ledge. Nice ledge with red snapper, Lobs, grouper, and my first Alpha of the new year. A 21 pound Hog. I also caught the biggest Slipper lob I have ever seen. Vis about 30' 70* water temp.
Second new spot, more converted loran Nums right on the money! Me and Eyy Drop right on top of a fat Hog. This dumb snouter cruises right in front of eyyball and stops broadside! He aims his 42 biller, pulls the trigger and the line release does not give! The shaft stops and the Alpha takes off up current with me in pursuit. Took a poor shot and lost him. Oh Well, can't win em all.
3rd spot was a brand new ledge we ran over. The profile was just like a wreck on the depthfinder but it was a nice ledge. The current was wicked but he managed to come up with more bugs, Grouper, and stories of a big hog.
Fun was had by all. good trip.
Les with a couple.

Freeshafted this hog that gave me a fit chasing him down.
21# My starting entry for the Spearboard big fish. I'm sure it won't last long. This is my year Dan!

3 New Confirmed New dive locations in one day. Now that an awesome day. We don't have the structure like many other places. A ledge that's 100 yards long and 4 ft high is a big piece of area for us. Great day on the ocean. Les

Great day, got a nice lobster in between all the gun line release/moron newbie problems I had spearing. I swear to god I wanted to take that biller thru a wood chipper and use the scraps for kindling this winter tho.

Nice fish guys! Somehow I figured that the water up your way would be colder in January.

Two things, What do y'all do with all of the fish you shoot?
Second, can I ride when I get back into town? The house is a **** hair away from selling and we should be back by Feb.

Well I know I eat my share of the fish we take, it's about the only meat eaten at my house anymore(Insert poor married guy joke here).

4-5 days a week devoted to fish for supper. Love it. Rest is venison or hog. Thank goodness there's no issue with Hg in them.
Kite the water is warmer now than it was in August!! Weird backflow from the gulf stream. Last week it was 54 in the exact same spot we went Sunday at 70. The backflow is dissapearing so we're headed back to cold (but hey, I'm in Sea School for two weeks anyway- let it blow, let it be cold.

Les you should run your boat up here for a weekend sometime(only about a 3 hour run to the mouth of the Cape Fear) and I'll give you some numbers for ledges with 10-15ft relief that run for close to a mile or more. I can probably fix you up with a slip for the weekend. Hell, I might even go with you if I'm not chartered. I think I still have some Bertram hats and shirts from when I ran that 510.

That'd be cool. I'd really like to hit the Bluefin as well next fall if I don't take the boat to the bahama's. Will make for damn sure I pick a day to come up north that I don't have to go the ICW. I about lost my hair, heart and all mental capacity on that peice of water all the from MD! Yuck. Ocean or no go. Had no choice Thanksgiving was 25-40knt winds the entire trip. Rob would have to convince his wife to drive his car to Wilmington though.

I am ok with visiting the inlaws for the weekend as long as I'm 35-40 miles offshore.
