Hi there,
Do any of you guys use a float line on your poles spears? What are the pros and cons. Im considering it... and thought you guys might be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks, Namor

Use the search function on these boards, there's been a bunch of threads on this before. I just hook the float line to my rubber with a shackle, my regular dive buddy tied a 50' section of polypro rope to his rubber, some tie a loop in end of the rubber and hook on there too. There's a few other methods as well.
I love having the line on my pole. Up here in norcal, I don't use the float line to fight fish, but it's really handy to be able to drop my pole whenever I want, like when I see a fat ab!

I do, and it's pretty simple. Just connect a regular speargun shark clip setup to your rubber. Here's mine;

Search for the other articles. There are 3 or four that cover it in detail.

I'll be rigging a couple of my spears this week with floatlines for a trip. I'll get some pics posted next week when I return.

I'd think the floatline would add alot of drag if the fish you were shooting was beyond the polespears length.
If I'd ever tie a floatline to it I would tie about a polespears length of mono to the polespears eye and pull it as I pulled the band. That will create a "wrap" like on a speargun.

You don't get that much "flight" after you release a polespear, so you'll only get about a rubbers worth of post release flight anyway. You don't really lose much by attaching the line to the rubber.

You have got it right. You need to mitigate the drag of the float line. The way you describe is one of the best ways.
