Cool, I just finished painting my X-Factor, will post pictures soon, it's a killer! I added 8 rod holders, rod clips, 2 guns clips, Gator Hatch. She's a beauty still a work in progress. (I'm adding navigator lights, Fishfinder, GPS, bilge pump, dual battery box, 5 gallon bait bucket) I do both diving and fishing on the yak, first diving then if viz is bad then fish. No bad days either way!

Good thing about that Big Malibu front hatch is you can fit rods, guns and fish in there no problem.
I prefer the reg. hatch over the gator Hatch though. Not as heavy, catches less wind and leaves more interior storage room.

The gator hatch is for my 3 year old who got his first halibut on rod and reel, I still haven't gotten one......

Pete,
I don't think the gator hatch is a big deal with the wind, your fins are! Just like a sail!

Nice paint job! You didn't show the underside... do you have eyes painted under there to scare off the sharks? :)

Where do you guys store your yaks? I gotta find a way to keep it out of the sun, I don't want to have to replace it anytime soon.

Thanks for the comments, I am thinking of adding little yellowfin tunas and little squids on the bottom perhaps that will bring in wsb under the boat

I think storing the kayaks upside down is supposed to be bad for it. From this article:
http://www.sit-on-topkayaking.com/Articles/Instruction/Storage.html
"Do not store plastic kayaks upside down; the hull will warp shaping the kayak into a banana."
The article goes on to list several alternative methods.

Good thing I saw this thread about not hanging the yak by the ends. I have had my kayak hanging by the handles on the front and back off and on for 2 months...Now I know why it's getting harder to paddle...F#$k!!! It looks like it bent quite a bit too. Now I'll have to hang it by the scupper holes and add some weight to the ends.

Don't forget to put bands on your gun. Its a lot easier that way.
Nice set up by the way.

An update on my deformed kayak...Before I read this thread I was hanging my kayak by the handles and it appeared/seemed to be losing its form(looking like a banana). I hung it upright by the scupper holes and put weights in the nose and tail, left it for week. Before I did this my Wong Ono gun wouldn't fit inside the front hatch....not even close. Now that it is closer to the factory shape, my Ono gun fits no problem and it seems paddle better(like when I bought it brand new). Moral of the story.....Hanging kayaks by the handles on front and back is definetly not a good idea.

Here is mine. I have not done anything too fancy to it. I put a eagle sonar unit on it and a few rod holders (that I never use). The sonar was a great addition. It makes finding reefs, pinnacles, and ledges a snap. Normally I store my gun in the center hatch, but my 65" gun does not fit. My 55" and 120cm guns fit in the center hatch just fine. This boat works great. I have used it in everything from 10 foot plus swells near my home in norcal to the glassy waters of baja's east cape.

Hello all:
Can you guys please show more pictures of your yak.
I would like to see what batteries you use and how they fit
in the yaks. Also, where you store the anchor and line.
Thanks
i like the size of that center hatch, does it seal well?

Seahunter, what do you do for batteries? I have the same fishfinder. I get two 6v lantern batteries, tape them together and connect the wires to the springs and then put it in tupperware and tape it up...sometimes it works really good, other times not so good.

aquahunter, how do you like the x-factor? im looking at getting one and was wondering how well it handles and if it is relatively quick on the water. I have to opportunity to get one brand new, with a seat, paddle, and 2 rod holders installed for only $350. I just want to make sure its decent for fishing and diving. thanks.

Hi all,
I thought I'd chime in and share how I store my kayaks. I hang them on the wall with eye hooks on a stud and strap them in with the tie downs I use to secure them to my jeep. They do not get deformed from hanging on the wall. And I save alot of space this way.

I love it! I do both fishing and diving on it and my son has a blast on it as well. I lived in FL for 28 years and used different kayak off Ft Lauderdale to the Keys. X-Factor top it off for me!

surfin009,
I for one love the Extreme. I used to use it alot for H&L fishing. rigged with depth finder, bait tank, gps, and sometimes outfitted with up to 5 rods at a time. for me the length of the kayak is a plus(16'). I'm able to track much better with a stroke of my paddle in comparison to paddling a shorter kayak. the flat hull makes beach landing it more stable coming in through rough surf. the kayak would jack knife with the wave behind me and pushing me to shore without it capsizing.
I never took the Extreme Scubadiving, but I have taken the kayak above the extreme(pro 2 tandem) with 2 divers and 2 sets of SCUBA gear out to the kelp beds and dove with no problems. We even had an extra kayaker and diver with us in a separate kayak that carried our extra tanks where we were able to switch out tanks on the kayak. Personally, I think If I were to SCUBA off the Extreme, I think it would be a much more stable platform than doing it on my tandem kayak.
These days when I do use the Extreme, I just use it to freedive now. I don't even take the rods with me. I stuff all the gear inside the hull through the large front hatch. I can fit 2 spearguns(50" DW Hybrid and 90cm Rabitech), fins, dive flag on a PVC pole, and other misc. items(gps, vhf radio, water snacks.) If you have the oppurtunity to get the extreme for really good price, go for it, you will be pleased. If you do get it and you would like to hook up for a dive let me know. I'd be happy to dive with you if you are in the La Jollla area.
Here's a pic of the Extreme rigged as a battleship during the H&L days.
