I live in Sarasota and am looking at buying my first yak. Probably will be a Prowler or a Trident. I'm trying to come up with a list of places good for kayak diving and spearfishing. Let me know what places you have found and I'll do likewise.

Todd, I have a garage full of crap. 9 tanks, 2 guns, on and on. Have 1 yak but am trying to sell it to get a bigger one. I really like the Ocean Kayak Trident. I have every other weekend off, and always one or two days off mid week, which is probably better time to go since there is far less boat traffic. I am new to kayak diving, but not diving. Would like to start slow, not too deep, not too far off shore, till I gain more experience with these little bitty boats that everyone is falling in love with. Will cell is 321-5001

Hey, it looks like we have at least 3 guys interested in kayak diving and spearing in Sarasota area. I am slowly putting together a list of places to dive and spear, with a convenient launch point. Sounds like the 3 of us need to schedule a dive soon. Maybe this Sun if weather and vis. are decent.

Ok, I'm reviving an old thread. Besides nizutz, whom I already know, how many other yak spearos (scuba or freediving) are there in the Sarasota area? I'm always looking for others to dive with. I've done Spanish Rocks, Point-o-Rocks, The Culverts, S. Brohard Blocks and some Venice ledges. Has anyone checked out some of the bay artificial reefs in SRQ bay?

There is an artificial reef just north west of the new ringling bridge. There are alot of grouper there in the winter. I catch em H&L all the time, but the water is usually pretty churned up. If it ever clears up I'd like to throw a mask on and check out some of the piles around there. There is a great place to launch maybe 100yds to the south of the reef, the reef is marked with a yellow sign. Post a report if you ever try it.

I took the yak out yesterday doing a bit of recon on some bay artificial reefs and around the Ringling causeway. Lots of shootable fish and decent viz (5-7). Most sites a short paddle. Just looking this time, didn't even take a gun...but next time

I have every other weekend off, and Wed. and Thur. off every second week. Would be up for local area dive when conditions are ideal - good vis and not a lot of wind. have yaks and gear.
